I am considering getting my nose pierced, am I nuts and will I regret it?

I really fancy getting a tiny nose stud, something very dainty like this

Am I bonkers? Will it look awful? I really like the idea of it.

One thing that worries me is that if I don't like it or I get bored of it then it won't heal properly and I'll be left with a dot scar on my nose.

Also re practicalities, will my nose blow up huge and red for days or does it go down quite quickly, and will I have to faff ala ear piercings with antiseptic and twisting it round every night? Will it hurt lots and do they do it with a gun/stapler type thingy?

I had mine done 5 years ago, with a needle. Didn't hurt at all, just made my eyes water a bit. Never swelled up, healed very quickly. I love it. You can get whatever you like for your first nose stud (large crystal, small, gold ball etc), as long as it's the kind with a corkscrew post which they thread in for you. That's what I had first, and then I switched to a stud-type with a little ball at the end because I didn't like the feeling of the corkscrew thingie in my nose. Best site I've ever found to order from is this one.
Have fun with it!

Also a gun shocks the tissue, with its forceful impact so therefore there will be scarring or a builtup of tissue damage as it swells around it to protect the wound. A needle does not damage the surrounding tissue as it is a slower process (not slower for you, its very speedy) but slower for the tissue, it does not shock the tissue so there is less chance of bobbly scarring.

pavlov... 3 hours after getting my lip done i made the mistake of chancing pizza.... not fun for me but vastly amusing to my housemates [ouch]

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 22/06/2009 21:12

pinktulip ouch! I was very sad, as I had to wait for it to heal before i could 'repierce' it so to speak. And then I found out I was pg and decided the risk of blood poisoning was not worth taking the chance. And then by the time DD came along I figured she would like pulling and tugging as my friend's baby did, so I left it out .

I still twiddle where it used to be though on occasion

had done years ago, in camden when at school (natch). not all that, got infected, never looked good and tiny scar now.

do not go to anywhere that wants to do it with a gun.

hmmm...tbh, I think nose piercings are only ever a good idea if you have a pretty little nose that you want to draw attention to...so, for me it would be a complete NONO....lol...

Add to the NO GUN lobby. Every piercing in my ears was done with a gun, and was a pita to heal. I've had my nose done twice with a needle (only one hole, accidently let it heal over when I lost my stud postDS1 and was too baby brained to replace it) and never had any trouble. No swelling, no infection, no pain apart from the initial wince when it goes through. Piercing studios tend to have a nicer range of studs too (never had to have a big gold one, have little discreet sparkly one)

I should say that the only time I lose nose studs is when I'm daft enough to wear the cheapy ones from Claire's, the wire's too thin and flannels, towels, random gusts of wind can make them fall out. Get a nice solid one from somewhere that specialises and it'll stay in.

LOL Fairlady, my pretty stud distracts attention from the rest of my pug ugly face

I got my nose done a couple of years ago.

Got it done at proper piercing place, with needle.

It hurt a lot. More than ears, top, middle and lobe, more than eyebrow, more than belly button.

It was ugly because I had to wear a stupid big bauble while it healed.

Then I got drunk and knocked it into the loo and couldn't get it back in and it hurt and was a bit unsightly for a few weeks.

Healed over. No scar. Wouldn't do it again.

I know this is years later.....but would anyone still recommend it?
