ds aged 6 has to draw 4 things beginning with x for his homework- we can only think of x-ray and xylophone, and googling only brings up obscure words I couldn't begin to draw. Are there are any obvious ones I am missing?

That's hard. Can't he include words ending with 'x' if he highlights that the 'x' is at the end of the word?

Saucepanman · 14/06/2009 14:59

Do you think I could get away with that?! Teacher has written him a note in his book saying it's a tricky one. Was hoping to do as you suggest!

Saucepanman · 14/06/2009 15:00

Strange homework - have they been working their way through the alphabet?! A xebec is a small 3 masted mediterranean vessel according to my dictionary and he could draw a little photocopier with xerox on the side? Not sure that's v helpful

cornsilk · 14/06/2009 15:01

Well at 6 I think it's asking a bit much TBH!
Get him to write the word and do the final letter in a different colour.

Scootergrrrl · 14/06/2009 15:01

And along similiar lines, Xmas present/card/etc?

Saucepanman · 14/06/2009 15:03

lol at custardo! His homework DOES my head in every week, especially as he is in his own 6 year old world most of the time. Every week he has 4 drawings x2 (for 2 letters) 10 spellings and 5 sentences to construct with said spellings, and a reading book. Having spent a big part of half term constructing a trumpet with him, and then fashioning a "wildlife themed" outfit for a sponosored walk last fri, I am having a slight sense of humour failure!

Right thanks for all your suggestions- will let him do fox, as he suggested a minute ago. And yes he has had to do this for every letter!

What about xebec?

Uriel · 14/06/2009 15:07

And xenops - a small tropical rainforest bird.

Heathcliffscathy · 14/06/2009 15:09

the latin name for a swordfish begins with x

HumpingAnteater · 14/06/2009 15:10

xenon - just draw a box -the gas is inside.

x-plane X-15 would be good.

x-box

x-type jag

x-trail bike

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 14/06/2009 15:14

Draw a little boy looking scared in a big wood - Xylophobia is the fear of forests!!

HumpingAnteater · 14/06/2009 15:17

sorry x-trail is a nissan car

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 14/06/2009 15:20

or just a big pair of lips - everyone knows X is a kiss!

Tortington · 14/06/2009 15:32

no don't do xenon or xylophobia - how would a 6 year old know that sorry girls) is this homework his or yours? whilst you should help ofcourse - what teacher is really going to think he did his homework - and willhe actually learn anything

letter to school asking if the teacher has lost her marbles.

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 14/06/2009 16:20

custardo - I was trying to be ironic!

I did not actually expect her child to illustrate Xylophobia. It was an example of how few and far between words starting with 'X' are in our language, and there is no way a 6-year old would know them.

Saucepanman · 14/06/2009 16:45

Sorry ladies I was distracted by a few things- dh being an arse, dd being a nuisance etc. All helped with the homework let me tell you! Anyway ds had a revelation and thought of x-box and x-factor on his own, and has drawn the x factor judges DH had suggested xenon and drawing a cloud of gas. Just realised he doesnt have spellings this week and was beyond overjoyed. Thanks again everyone

Saucepanman · 14/06/2009 17:01

MachuPicchu · 14/06/2009 17:04

A picture of Nick Griffin - a xenophobic?

Saucepanman · 14/06/2009 18:02
