I wish. From a youngster I haven't had any nails. I am 30 and still can't break the habit of biting them. I'd love to have lovely nails, all manicured and polished. Any advice for stopping my horrid habit would be great too so I can join in the rest of the thread.

ONly when they are long enoungh !!
I use any old Express finish - 'cos with 2 kids you need to have dry nails immediately. BUT that means that it chips very quickly!!

Dahlia · 30/04/2003 20:21

Its considered very trendy to not have matching fingers and toes, but I prefer to match. The basic Rimmel varnishes stay on well for me, also M & S. Bourgeois is crap and chips after half an hour. If you buy a clear glitter varnish (silver or gold) and put a coat or two of that over a colour, it looks fab. And it takes much longer to chip. And you feel like you're a chick.

Mine are always done - i'll have no makeup on but the nails MUST look good - God how does that make me sound. No , don't always match . I like..

OPI, Jessica, Revlon M&s and superdrug !!

yeah - mine are always fairly pale too, not red and vampish with a 2yr old I'm afraid

ALWAYS paint my toenails - maybe not for 6 months or so but there is always a trace on them. Last bit of last summer's is slowly disappearing on my big toe. If I do paint my finger nails prefer just slutty purples and reds.

Clarinet60 · 30/04/2003 21:53

Toenails are usually silver, sometimes green. Only paint fingernails for special occasions, as when I was a teenager, I painted them constantly and now have a sore reaction to the remover.

lou33 · 30/04/2003 21:54

I do my fingers when the nails haven't broken from housework, and my toes usually at the same time. Mostly dark (almost black) purple, but sometimes a toffee colour.

Linnet · 30/04/2003 22:13

I paint my toenails, I use a rimmel drys in 60 seconds I think. I don't paint my fingernails though as I have always bitten my nails and they are usually very soft. The only time I've ever had lovely nails was when I got nail extensions done last year in Canada for my wedding, they lasted for 3 weeks and I loved them, but I couldn't afford to keep getting them fixed every two weeks when we came home But I did discover a nail stregnthener in Canada and I have found a shop here that sells it also and if I use that it really helps my nails and then all I have to do is keep them out of my mouth and they will grow. Still working on that last bit though, lol

jac34 · 30/04/2003 22:14

Always have my toenails painted, and mostly do my fingernails for the four days I'm not in work.
Usually, bright on toes and on fingers when their long but a paler one on fingers when their short.
Just bought a fab colour called "shocker" by Rimmel, in their 60 second range.

Jimjams · 30/04/2003 22:25

I don't have any nails- they're chewed to pieces. My Mum made me get false ones when I got married, but the girl who did them made them look like pigs trotters, so I had to go somewhere else the day before I got married to have some sort of salvage job done.

SueW · 01/05/2003 09:10

I've been growing my nails recently. Prefer nude-ish colours.

Claireandrich - I have been going to a friend each week who is just setting up her own nail business. She does a scrub and manicure, finishing with polish. It has had a fab effect - I'm not a huge nail-biter but I do tend to pick at dry bits down the side . Knowing I have to see her roughly every week tends to stop me from doing too much damage.

WideWebWitch · 01/05/2003 09:37

I never paint my finger nails but always do my toes, which are bright pink atm to exactly match my (open toed) sandals. I agree about the clear varnish over the top to make it last longer and I also go for express finish ones. I don't bite my finger nails but they'd look crap painted, I don't know why really, they're just not those kind of nails.

Demented · 01/05/2003 11:39

I stopped biting my nails when pg with DS2, at about seven months pg they just became really hard and I didn't want to bite them anymore and I haven't restarted! I do notice that they break more easily now than when I was pg though. I use the Rimmel 60 sec stuff on my toenails, blue/silver sort of colour. I don't paint my fingernails, have tried but find it very difficult, still waiting for DH to treat me to a manicure after stopping biting my nails, oh and my mum promised me a manicure set if I stopped biting them (I was about 12 then so maybe she has forgotten )!

scoobysnax · 01/05/2003 13:21

Chanel is very long lasting, worth the money IMP. Toes seem to last longer without chipping than fingers do, so I can manage those at least in the summer - I insisted on a pedicure before giving birth and a leg wax - how pointless was that?
Fave colours are pastel pink or lilac for fingers - no point in drawing a lot of attention to my nails, they're not that great, and chips don't show as much. Turquoise is my ultimate fave though or that dark purply red that was fashionable a few years ago( rouge noir?) Reading this back I realise I am in a bit of a time warp - what colour is fashionable now?
