Could anyone tell me when i should get the new child tax credit and working tax credit. I was getting WFTC every 2 weeks now it has stopped and i am getting nothing. I am completely skint because of this and every time my dh has tried to phone up he can't get thru! Has everyone else got theirs yet and if so does it make you better off?

My wftc stopped this month too and my new credit, whatever it is called, went in on the date they said it would. I had heard lots of stuff about them having a backlog to work through and people not getting their money but mine was fine. It's just as well as my child benefit has been missing for a couple of months and I certainly can't manage without both!

Have you tried finding their website on Google? I couldn't get through on the phone about my child benefit so I sent them an email via their website. Within a couple of days they phoned me saying what had happened and what they would do and they have sorted it out for me now.

Sorry, missed your last question, yes it does. We were getting about £96 a month with wftc but now are getting £147 a month - this makes a lot of difference to us.

Sorry again, I meant £247!

Yep, I applied for it last November and had heard nothing so I phoned up and eventually got through after an hour. The guy took my national insurance no. and said he'd phone me back if there were any problems with my application. Haven't heard anything from them since so I assume its all going through the system. Apparently the money will be back paid too. Don't know why it's taking so long though.

Oops! Sorry!

if you go to your local tax office you can get emergery payments from them.
We were lucky, we got our payments on date and haven't had to go without. We are about £300 better off a month.

Bumblelion · 30/04/2003 14:36

I have just received a cheque for mine for the back-payment and am better off than when I was only getting the WFT but not sure how much better off I am as I was getting the children's tax allowance as part of my pay cheque and am now getting the whole lot in one payment direct into my bank. Does come in handy though!

Does anybody know anything about the Child Tax Credit that's supposed to change this month too? (It's what came in a couple of years ago when they got rid of married couple's allowance, and alot more people get it than are eligible for WFTC). I've heard that it transfers money from the husband to the wife. Dh received £40 less in his salary for this month, but I don't know how I'm supposed to get it credited to me.

kkgirl · 30/04/2003 18:03

We sent our form in via internet last november and heard zilch. I rang about a month ago and it took three hours on and off ringing and then I got through finally early one morning. The guy I spoke to sounded very uninterested and said wait until you get your award notice and then phone us. Great!!!
Anyway £40 has appeared in our bank account without any warning but I have no idea if it is per month, year or what.
Don't know what was wrong with the old system and don't think most people will be any better off
