Calling all texty/pc gurus: receiving text messages directly to a pc - is it possible?

I am organising an art project around my local town in a month or so.

Part of the project means that the public can text their responses to the artwork that they see.

Rather than having to write down each message as it comes in, is there a way to get text messages to go directly to an email inbox or to be able to connect your phone to a pc???
