Help....!!! trying to get through to person not answerphone menu...any ideas how??

I have spent the last half hour or more trying to get through to someone at BT, only to find myself pressing buttons and being sent to all sorts of 'menus' .

I am now about to throw the phone out of the window!! Doeas anyone know how to get to speak to a person on these infernl things? I just want to go ex-directory, the website says to call the number, but I can't work out which option I need. It won't let me just fume quietly and insists I choose an option - ~I must have tried them all but still not got anywhere!

I seem to recall there is a button you can push to aviod all the menus but I don't know it.

Any help gratefully received!!!

thanks TMH - but no joy - pressed it several times at different points - from when phone answered to during menus.

Anyone else?!?!

I think I remember hearing if you just keep pressing loads of random buttons it confuses the answerphone thingymebob and puts you through to someone.

Another trick is to ring the number for anyone who is wanting to become a new customer of BT (or any other company) you get through to someone a lot quicker, just say something like "I'm trying to get through to someone who can change us to ex-directory, but think I may have come through to the wrong number?" and they'll either deal with you, or put you through direct to someone who can.

Good luck, they are a PITA!

Don't press any buttons at all, ignore all the instructions and someone should answer.

ooh - like the sound of that NJ - will just give it a go now....wish me luck

I generally find the 'if you want to cancel your contract' options get you through pretty quick.

Phew, did it! I found that ignoring everything (even the quite threatening-sounding voice telling me I do really need to press a button!) eventually put me in a queue and then I got through to someone after a mere 5 minutes of being told they were sorry I was on hold....GRRRR!

Still, got it sorted - thanks to all for replies!
