3 minutes after the water starts boiling?

collision · 29/04/2005 14:43

From boiling it takes 3 mins.

Dont risk it in cold water.

suzywong · 29/04/2005 14:43

no no no, you must have the water boiling and put the egg in for 5 minutes, that's the quickest way

OK?

WigWamBam · 29/04/2005 14:43

About 3 and a half minutes after they start boiling. Put them under the cold tap as soon as you take them out, to stop them continuing to cook.

WigWamBam · 29/04/2005 14:44

If you put them into boiling water the shell will crack. Although you can always put some vinegar in to stop the egg seeping out if it does.

suzywong · 29/04/2005 14:45

ooh you're all very brave with your runny 3 minutes yolks

lovingmummy · 29/04/2005 14:45

best thing to do is try out all these times being suggested to you and report back so we know how long they take too.

WigWamBam · 29/04/2005 14:47

I suppose they're getting extra cooking if the water is cold to start with though, suzywong, so perhaps that's the difference.

lou33 · 29/04/2005 14:47

i bring them to boil and simmer for 3.5 mins

colditz · 29/04/2005 14:48

Bring water to boil

Add eggs

Time 5 minutes exactly

Remove eggs

Plunge into cold water

WARNING: If eggs are not as cooked as you would like, do not, DO NOT, microwave them.

I found that out the hard way. The minute you put the spoon in, they will explode in your face.

Evesmama · 29/04/2005 14:49

you lot were supposed to help me!!!not the other way round

know they crack if in hot water, so thats why i used cold.

right, they're for dd and first time shes had them as she doest 'do' eggs, so had better not poisen her

[blush

OP posts:
WigWamBam · 29/04/2005 14:52

Not pathetic at all!

According to Delia, 3 minutes from boiling gives a reakky soft boiled agg, 4 minutes gives a white that is set and a creamy yolk, 5 minutes for a set egg with no squidge.

From cold, 6 minutes gives a soft yolk and wobbly white, 7 minutes gives a creamy yolk with a white that is completely set.

WigWamBam · 29/04/2005 14:53

Pack some tea cups with tissue paper, or use small empty yoghurt pots (what do you mean, you don't keep empty yogurt pots??)

colditz · 29/04/2005 14:58

Will also depend on whether you keep your eggs in the fridge or out, as the temperature differance could be as much as 20 degrees

Evesmama · 29/04/2005 14:58

ahem....
first attempt in bin!!!!
4 mins after boiling=rock hard!

found dd's little toy tea set and eggs fit perfect!!

OP posts:
Evesmama · 29/04/2005 14:59

yeah i keep them in door of fridge?

OP posts:
colditz · 29/04/2005 15:00

And of course, the size of your eggs. I buy very big eggs!

WigWamBam · 29/04/2005 15:00

You need to put them into cold water or run the cold tap onto them for a little while after you take them out of the pan otherwise they carry on cooking.

Evesmama · 29/04/2005 15:04

yep did that..anyone know how to re soften them????

OP posts:
Evesmama · 29/04/2005 15:28

just ate them..mmmm..yum yum ..and....dd is munching hers too

OP posts:
JanH · 29/04/2005 15:30

If they're semi hard you can stir a bit of butter in - if they're solid save them for making egg mayonnaise with!

Try 3 mins simmering next time (after starting from cold), and if they are still a bit runny when you knock the top off you can pop them back in the hot water for 20-30 secs.

(I keep mine on the counter btw.)

JanH · 29/04/2005 15:30

Oh, and we have used cut-up egg boxes for eggcups (no dolly's teasets here )

Evesmama · 29/04/2005 22:12

had a v.bad case of tummy gurgles earlier, followed my half hour on loo
worses till dd also had very runny bum and is now very sore and covered in rash

could it have been the eggs that quickly????
