Children's party

We have booked my YDs birthday party and have sent out the inivtations. Some replies have come back and so far only one person has accepted. I'm not sure what to do. My daughter is outgoing and confident and I want her to stay this way. I don't want to put it to her that it may end up with only a couple of people at her party but I know that she will be really upset if no one turns up on the day. At least half of the people that she has invited are notorious for not replying to party invites and you have to wait until the day to see who will turn up. Do I make an excuse and cancel the party now, postponing it until another day, or do we go ahead and just make the best of what happens on the day? I'm quite pessimistic and always look on the black side of things so I can only see this as turning into a disaster. Any tips for looking on the bright side and making her day a fun one even if only a couple of people turn up?

When is the party and how many children have you invited? Which children does your daughter really want to come and how many? If I were you I'd ring round and find out if people were coming and then make a decision.

Party is in 2 weeks and have asked 14 people. So far we know that 3 can't come, but looking at the list at least 6 others are unreliable and either don't reply a all or say they can come and then don't turn up on the day (know this form past experience). When she was making the list I was gently trying to point this out and tried to get her to invite other people but she got upset saying these were her friends. My gut feeling is tell her a "white lie" that the venue needs to rearrange and try and book it for a day when more people can come but she is adamant that she wants it on this day.
