This is probably a really silly questions but I have been wondering if I should my 1 year old first or give him a bath first and then prepare his dinner. So far I have given him a bath every other morning but now want to make it part of his bedtime routine...

Whichever's easier for you. And how messy an eater he is, of course.

emmatmg · 26/04/2005 13:30

Imagaine the mess he'll get his PJ's in at dinner.

Defo bath AFTER dinner.

bundle · 26/04/2005 13:30

after for us, both dd's are v messy

jessicasmummy · 26/04/2005 13:30

i find the feed, bath, bottle routine at night really settles jess. she makes a mess while eating so needs a bath after anyway, but i think its more wind down for them if the have already eaten. HTH

tea, bath, milk, story, bed. Takes care of 5.30 till 7

HappyDaddy · 26/04/2005 15:23

I've just changed dds routine, too. Dinner at 5.30, then bath, then relax with mum til bottle and bed around 7.

Still wakes up at 7.40 but we enjoy the pretence!

PsychoFlame · 26/04/2005 15:27

Definately dinner first... but then DD does think any sauce works like moisturiser and rubs it all over her face

elsmommy · 26/04/2005 15:27

Mine has a bath in the morning - have to due to crazy hair!!!
Then on a night we have tea at 6ish, bath at 7:30 get her pjs on etc, few books and bed at 8:45/9:00.
So she has 2 baths

lunavix · 26/04/2005 15:30

I'm considering a two bath day. Ds gets rather shirty between 9 and 10 am, but won't nap till half ten, so it'll be something to do that he likes.

He has a bath at 7pm, usually has half his milk, then we give him his bath, then he finishes his milk. Bed at 8pm.

Tried giving him a bath earlier a few times (between 5 and 7) and he's come to expect his milk straight after his bath! Had to stop that!

lunavix · 26/04/2005 15:30

Mines 1 year btw

lunavix · 26/04/2005 15:30

Plus he gets a bath at 3ish on a thursday (after swimming) and during the day if we paint. We like baths

expatinscotland · 26/04/2005 15:31

After. Have tea around 6. Get her bath around back of seven. Then get jimjams on, story and bed at 8.

bibiboo · 26/04/2005 17:09

DURING! That way, he can get as messy as he likes and you can just wash it all off and put him straight to bed

Chandra · 26/04/2005 17:17

after dinner, before milk here

Twiglett · 26/04/2005 17:19

DD's routine

feed, feed some more, bath (sometimes), babygro sleeping bag, bed

(do you see what's missing?? yup she's not even 1 and won't have milk at night )

Booklover · 26/04/2005 18:01

Great, thanks for all your advice. Twiglett my ds is exactly the same, he won't drink any milk. Stopped bf last week (only the morning feed in the end) and since then I have to mix all his milk with his food. I therefore wasn't sure if it is too early for him to have dinner before his bath, but might give it a go!

after dinner definitely then he can eat and be messy without you stressing about him getting messy and needing another bath before bed.

dd1 has dinner, bathtime, wind down time with dh, milk, bed.

Thomcat · 26/04/2005 22:31

After. Dinner - get messy. Bath, get clean and soothed and warm and into pj's for a book and then milk and bed.

Twiglett · 27/04/2005 08:50

I think you should give him his dinner IN the bath, that way you won't have to clean up after him
