Not very PC but we have arranged for Pickfords to carry out a house move for us. We've used them 3-4 times previously and have always been provided with nice, new boxes. This time we've had 60 tatty, musty-smelling old boxes delivered. Whilst I'm happy to use some for books, toys etc I don't particularly want to put linen, clothes, crockery in them. Am I being really pedantic or can I call asking them for replacements ... some really do smell musty & damp!

You are being totally reasonable to ask for some decent boxes, Millie. When we moved last year (twice - am still getting over the trauma), both sets of removers used new boxes throughout.

Good luck with the move!

Thanks for the advice ... I shall phone them in the morning.

It was totally Yikes, Millie - we moved up from Essex to Scotland, and it was far too difficult to try to househunt from Essex, so we rented in the catchment of the school we'd chosen for the boys, and then house-hunted once we were up here. And we actually ended up moving to our own house from the rental within 3 months - it's a wonder I'm still sane (ish ).

We've finally unpacked all the boxes, as a lot had to stay in store whilst we had some work done on our new house, so it's all felt a bit impermanent, but things are finally in their proper places, and there's just some minor sorting out to do!
