Apart from pat self on back?

I am thinking of retraining but no idea about jobs. Those are the things I'm considering studying - what REAL ACTUAL JOBS might I get with a postgrad MA/PHD in them?

I mean ones that pay money. Any money. But must be money.

Thanks dearies.

I'm an ENFP and it says that systems analyst is one of my things. But gah. I'd rather have my head chopped off than become a systems analyst.

Quattrocento · 15/04/2009 23:17

Oh that's interesting Lenin. Curiously enough, I seem to be a square peg in a square hole. sheesh So that's okay. Has it helped you Onebat, my fellow english graduate?

What kind of history?

onebatmother · 15/04/2009 23:23

I seriously considered law. I was going to be campaigning feminist lawyer played by Nicold Kidman.

Reviews options for Onebat:

  • Lawyers - obviously possible, talent for arguing
  • Psychologists - you've discounted that one
  • Entrepreneurs - could be a winner
  • Photographers - background in films
  • Consultants - in what precisely?
  • Engineers - sounds horrid
  • Scientists - ditto
  • Actors - could be a winner
  • Sales Representatives - nah too much integrity
  • Marketing Personnel - erm dunno what that means - does that mean a career in marketing or personnel? Or is it covering both bases?
  • Computer Programmer, Systems Analyst, or Computer Specialist - sounds wrong

So Onebat, you should be either an actor, a photographer, a lawyer or an entrepreneur

I also have a genuine fantasy that I will be the Ray Winstone late-flowerer whom Mike Leigh discovers, to wild and universal applause.

Yes you need a prioritised list. And you need a firm timeline. So by May 1st you should have made a decision, by May 31st you should have implemented the key actions to bring your decision to the sticking place, by June 30th you will have bought all the relevant texts and by 1 September you will have read them all and be well prepared for the course.

hahahaha! timeline? decision?

I am a procrastinator, it's true. But there are so many forces at play here ...

I mistrust my instincts which I tend to view as risk-taking. Also - I STILL DON'T HAVE A BLOODY ANSWER! I think there is something else out there that would fit me perfectly.

I am thinking about HE. If academia is too competitive and wanky, then it's out. The only thing stopping me doing HE would be a desire to have people think I am high-powered and achievey.

OP posts:
Quattrocento · 15/04/2009 23:58

Right we have a prioritised list:

HE
actor
photographer
lawyer
entrepreneur

The above aren't all mutually exclusive. So you could take some acting/photography classes while waiting for (or indeed while doing) a course which might further your ambitions in HE.

See, that's combining your chances which is very good risk management ...

Or should I just retrain as a criminal lawyer? Is 41 TOTALLY too late? My father is a barrister and it put me off. But...
