If so......

Big fat / sign and rasberry to you and shove the dirty look you gave me where the sun don't shine.

But they didn't know the dog was too knackered to do anything.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 13/04/2009 17:34

I have a dog. She stays on her lead. I would not be annoyed with a parent who did what that parent did.

My eldest daughter was terrified of dogs after being chased by one not on a lead.

She is ok now we have our dog.

Not everyone loves dogs, I know plenty of people who are wary of dogs.

I think you're being harsh. You don't know what experience that woman may have had with a dog.

AbleSister · 13/04/2009 17:34

your dog is a wild wolf

HairyMuff · 13/04/2009 17:35

You could have said "its ok he's really friendly, come and have a pat" etc etc.

StopSittingOnTheBabyPlease · 13/04/2009 17:35

What kind of dog?

littlelamb · 13/04/2009 17:35

What bollocks. Sorry. But really. Teaching your child dog safety will do bugger all if said dog is uncontrollable. How was she to know the temprement of your dog? I would probably have given you the side eye too. In fact I will. With bunny ears on

AbleSister · 13/04/2009 17:36

it was the HOUND of the Baskervilles

JohnnyTwoHats · 13/04/2009 17:37

Ablesister

TitsalinaBumsquash · 13/04/2009 17:37

Evenif the child had been terrified which op says she wasnt as she smiled at her i don't think there was any reason for the woman to do a loud dramatic display in front of everyone about a dog who by the sounds of it wasn't doing anything remotley boistrous or scary. IMO

AbleSister · 13/04/2009 17:38

I think irrc it had blood dripping from its teeth too

Doodle2U · 13/04/2009 17:38

Dogs often get giddy when a child freaks/shreaks etc Astra - it agitates them and they think it's time for fun.

From about the age of three, explain to the child to keep quiet, fold arms around them selves and don't look at the dog or run. Keep repeating the message until they understand it and follow it.

My children, esp. DS were scared of dogs. DS was jumped on by an alsation puppy when he was a toddler. We worked with him on the techniques explained above and now both children are dog-aware and passed the freak-out phase.

I would have let it pass and forgotten about it right up until the point she gave me the dirty look and followed it up with the same look to a dog owner who had his dog on a lead and was just ambling along the path.

lololololololol

AbleSister · 13/04/2009 17:39

in fact it was only when it started howling that I was worried.

fruitshootsnweaveseasterbasket · 13/04/2009 17:40

Maybe the child had rabies and she had to stop her from biting your dog. That wasn't her smiling over the mums shoulder that was a snarl!

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 13/04/2009 17:40

yes, it seems you did nothing wrong apart from to own a dog that wasn't dead and was moving around in public

AbleSister · 13/04/2009 17:41

lol

Doodle2U · 13/04/2009 17:41

I'm liking AbleSister. You're making me laugh!

Littlelamb - why thank you. We saw a baby lamb being born today. Very special moment. My dog saw it too - he sat down and licked his paw. Underwhelmed.

Yes, what we really all ought to do is teach our children how not to alarm dogs so they don't get bitten.

God I hate dog threads

southeastastra · 13/04/2009 17:43

oh i've tried all of that, it isn't that easy unfortunately

Doodle2U · 13/04/2009 17:45

Well I think if you are going to take your children walking along Dog Walkers Heaven, it might be useful if your children have an idea how to behave around them, Spicey. Just a thought.

Yup, I think Laurie's hit the nail on the head - my dog has a pulse and therefore, I am to be hated.

Doodle2U · 13/04/2009 17:47

Astra, keep trying. They get it - they really do and one day, they'll be walking ahead of you or behind you, meet a mad dog and they'll just put what you've taught them in to practice. Please keep on with it.

littlelamb · 13/04/2009 17:47

Doodle, do you not think the replies you are getting have more to do with your op rather than your dog daring to take breath? Just because you love your dog doesn't mean everyone else is duty bound to.

StopSittingOnTheBabyPlease · 13/04/2009 17:48

Let me rephrase my question: "What size of dog?"

Doodle2U · 13/04/2009 17:51

I think the replies are the usual mixed bag for a dog thread LittleLamb. After 4 or 5 years on here and many, many dog threads under my belt, I wasn't expecting anything different TBH (with the exception of AbleSister who's kept it light and brought my narkiness back in to order ).

I really, really hope the bird in the white t.shirt is a Mnetter though - and the OP was to her, afterall.
