Do your knickers always match your bra?

susanmt · 18/04/2003 00:51

DH, who I have been happily showing my knickers to for over 8 years now, announced this evening as I was getting ready to go out for his birthday 'your underwear doesn't match'. I had on a white bra (wearing thin white blouse, is hot) and black knicks (was being nice putting on lacy thongy things to keep him happy).
Turns out he thinks that women ALL wear matching underwear ALL of the time! He claims he had never noticed that I didn't!
Please tell me I am not the only woman in the world who wears underwear that is not matching!!

Bobbins, I think claireandrich meant 'ants'. She must have ants in her pants

prufrock · 18/04/2003 22:53

Bobbins I am very proud to have been such an inspiration to you. But I must admit its only my bras I take such good care of, and thats only because they are pieces of structural engineering rather than underwear. I have to spend so much on them that all my knickers are really cheap ones from Top shop. However, I'm sure it won't be long before my bottom needs the same level of uplift as my boobs

SueW · 18/04/2003 23:30

Bobbins - I have just had a new computer. Do you want our old keyboard? Free, gratis, etc. Ok, maybe a donation for postage costs to a worthy charity of your choice.

Claireandrich · 19/04/2003 09:55

Ooops! Sorry about typo!

tallulah · 19/04/2003 12:01

I don't even own anything that matches!

My DH moans that as I've got older my pants are getting bigger- I always wear trousers so smaller pants show & there's NO WAY I would ever wear a thong!

As my pants have to be cotton & my bras have to be underwired & supportive I don't think I could manage to match them even if I wanted to. (As no-one sees them, what's the point?!)

wow, bobbins, how did you manage to make your words go off the page?

snickers · 19/04/2003 15:00

I remember when I used to take pride in underwear... So does DH (cue whistful sigh in background...)... There's nothing like a post preggars tummy, bigger thighs, lfatter boobs (I paint a sexy picture don't I?) to make you less likely to invest in the posh variety...

As for matching knickers - often, those matching knicks are quite expensive, and I don't know about anyone else, but I can't afford to buy a bra for every day of the week, and therefore, also couldn't afford to buy one bra, and seven matching pairs of knicks either...

So I try and buy a plain bra, and several pairs of plain knickers, so everything looks reasonable, but agree with the sentiment about underwear also having to match clothes somethimes. I lurve thongs!

oh bobbins, I hope you get something sorted out soon. I have a mental picture of you jabbing away at each key. Been there, done that myself. You think of a long message but the effort of spitting it out..... I am impressed that you say so much - and laugh about it too. And one bright spot - you must have some great toned finger muscles

Linnet · 19/04/2003 21:16

ok, I'll admit it all my knickers and bra's match...they are all a lovely fetching shade of grey!
Seriously I'm going to be buying some new ones this week when I get paid. but I usually buy a white bra that fits and the bag of 5 white knickers from marks and spencers for £10. they all start off matching in colour being white but eventually end up all matching in a lovely shade of grey.

I can't afford to buy the matching sets, although my friend does, she has loads of matching sets of underwear(I know this because I was telling her about this thread and nosy old me asked her out of interest) but she doesn't have any children yet, so I know this will probably change and I won't need to feel so bad.

Claireandrich · 19/04/2003 21:29

I can remember in my late teens, and early 20s, nearly all my underwear matched. Mind you, my relationship with Dh was quite new then so maybe felt I should make more of an effort!!! Now, I am so bad. In fact, I am making a resoultion to myself - I am going to go out next week and buy myselkf a lovely pair of matching underwear. Will let you know how I get on!

Rhiannon · 19/04/2003 22:07

I love the M&S bras and always buy them but like to wear cotton high legs and the matching M&S knickers are always nylon.

Furball · 19/04/2003 22:28

I always wear thongs, when I had Ds I had to go out and buy 'normal pants.' They're always black (yawn) and bras I find so difficult to buy, they're usually made of some fancy (highly itchy!!) lace, or look like something my Gran might wear. The trouble is you don't know until you've been in it all day just how uncomfortable the thing is. And yes I have been measured, they feel fine in the shop. I'm currently on Wonderbras, - not that I need the 'extra' but they are comfy and give you a good shape.

Oh cripes I've also started to wear comfortable shoes, what next?

jasper · 19/04/2003 23:00

Yes, both are dirty grey

slug · 19/04/2003 23:30

Ha! When you get into double D territory there's no such thing as matching knickers, unless you mean the granny sort.

Mocha · 20/04/2003 00:13

Double D! You lucky thing, Try finding nice bras in HH or J cups. it isimpossible.

SueW · 20/04/2003 08:54

Mocha - you're right. I just checked on Figleaves and there isn't much is there? Must drive you mad.

Alibubbles · 20/04/2003 10:30

slug and mocha, try Bravissimo, I also out my size ( 40DD) into Google along with Fantasie or Rigby and Peller as that is what I always buy. I also only buy it in the sales and you can pick up amazing bargains. I buy loads on the internet, this year I have already bought some fantastic bikinis at less tha half price all in large sizes ( Well, no one knows me when I go to Palm Desert!)

All my underwear matches, DH will spend a fortune in France on underwear for me, as where we ski is a fantastic little lingerie shop and I have now discovered Aubade and Antinea, they do beautiful lacey larger sizes.

I have stopped buying white, one set only, the rest is navy, burgundy, claret, black and coffee, I tend to wear Bridget Jones sloggi knickers for everyday under trousers, but quite often change in the evening when I finish working after a shower, makes you feel great!

Also, Ann Summers shops do large sizes and very pretty stuff too!

bobbins, I have just spilt water on my keyboard, it is a macintosh too, so I have nicked the one off the kids computer. They don't know yet, but it is doing what yours does, Ha ha!!

Mine is only 3 months old, so you think I can get it replaced under guarantee, it was only a splash of water, but has really messed it up.
