Mum2Toby saying someone said she looked like Catherine Zeta-Jones on another thread has inspired me to start this thread. Has anyone ever told you you look like someone famous? If so, was it flattering or downright insulting?

I have been told I look like Cher, Anita Harris as that nurse in the Carry On film and even Julie Andrews........hmmmmmmmmm.

The funniest comparisons however, have come from the children in my family. My nephew once told me I looked like Mystic Meg (aaarrrgghhh) and my ds has compared me to Ann Widdecombe and Ronnie Corbett!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All I can say is, he's lucky he's so cute!!

Sobernow, you do make me laugh! Many years ago (we're talking ten here) I was told I resembled Michelle Pfeiffer or Debbie Harry. 3 years ago I was sometimes told Ginger spice (they're getting fatter see?) but that'll have been the red and blonde streaks in dark hair at the time mainly. I most definitely don't resemble any of them now but I can't think of a famous middle aged lardy person with growing out blonde roots to give you the idea

Tinker · 16/04/2003 18:51

Stockard Channing is very cute, I think.

We all hate WWW now

When I was about 14 I used to be told I looked like Kate Bush, but that's because I tried to look like Kate Bush! In m,y 20's I was told I looked like Julieanne Regan of All About Eve, then Disa (sp?) (rough looking girl) from Eastenders!

Can't think of anyone recently

whymummy · 16/04/2003 18:57

i`ve been told i look like bjork and dh like jarvis cocker

Nutjob · 16/04/2003 19:01

Oh yeah, just thought of another one, dh thinks I look like Winona Ryder. Now I know what they mean about love being blind!!!!!!

Five years ago I used to get complete strangers coming up to me and telling me that I looked like...wait for it...Liz Hurley. I was thin then, and a bit more polished than I am now (ie no Petits Filous on my sleeve!) Also, my hair was a bit like hers. I couldn't see it myself, but loads of people said it. Dh used to say, 'I wish', so I would say that I wished he looked like Hugh!

However, now it doesn't happen, as she has got a bit old and scraggy

zebra · 16/04/2003 20:23

DH looks like Tim Henman or Noah Wylie (sp? plays a doc on ER). I don't resemble anybody but my daddy.

Chiccadum · 16/04/2003 20:38

I've been told that I look like Zola Budd, and Sophia Loren, you cannot get two people who look more unlike each other.

My Dh looks like Uncle Fester off the Adams Family

Mo2 · 16/04/2003 20:46

Before I had 2 kids I was told I looked like Kirsty Young (ex-channel 4 news presenter). Dh is often told he looks like Seb Coe or George Clooney (lucky me! )

Nutjob · 16/04/2003 20:53

My poor dh is forever being told he looks like people, so far it's been one of the blokes from Westlife, Ashley from Corrie, Mad Trevor from Eastenders, Aled Jones (now not then!!) and Nicholas Lyndhurst!!!

Dp looks like Alexi Sayle, or a real-life Homer. I used to get mistaken for Angie In Corrie - she went out with Curly I think (that was a long time ago)

susanb · 16/04/2003 21:12

I have been told I look like 'Karen' from Cold Feet (except I've got a fringe). Recently people have also told me I look like Fern (not Britten, the one who presents the kids show on Saturday mornings!) but unfortunately the other day my 3 year old thought Judy Finnigan looked like me! (I'm only 25!).

My other half was once told he looks like Antonia Banderas (although I can't see it!) but most people says hes the spitting image of Craig Doyle, the man who presents the BBC holiday show.

Tinker · 16/04/2003 21:58

My boyfriend looks like Jim (Dot's husband) in Eastenders. A slightly younger version!

bunny2 · 16/04/2003 22:00

Dh claims I resemble Princess Diana (then not now ). When I was younger I had a fling with a a Welsh barrister who called me his "Monroe Anglais" (Marilyn not Matt). I have also been likened to Liza Minelli (boo, quickly lightened my hair), Sue Ellen (the drunk one from Dallas), and Angela Landsbury( by my very definately ex-husband). My son always points to pics of J Lo in Heat mag and says "thats Mummy". Bless him

Hilary · 16/04/2003 22:11

Nutjob, those people are not very similar, are they? Which one do you think he looks most like?

I was once told I looked like Uma Thurman and had to scuttle off and find out who she was!

katierocket · 16/04/2003 22:12

bl**dy rio ferdinand. I didn't know who he was, and then someone told me he played for man utd and I checked him out. complement if you are a man but I'm a woman...

Twink · 16/04/2003 22:33

Hmm, I've been mistaken for Anneka Rice so many times I think I'm going to go for surgery - either that or get universal eye tests for everyone. I DO NOT LOOK LIKE HER or should that be the other way round ?? EEEeeek.

Nutjob · 16/04/2003 22:38

Hilary - Unfortunately for dh out of those listed I think he looks most like Ashley from Corrie, without the stupid voice and odd facial expressions. However, I personally think he looks more like Gary Barlow around the time of the 'Pray' video, but again maybe that's just my love goggles!!!

tomps · 16/04/2003 22:52

Kirsty Young came on tv reading a story on CBeebies, and dd said 'mama' and went and kissed the screen ! I was very flattered as she had never said mama before, perhaps she meant something else altogether !

expatkat · 16/04/2003 23:12

Ds saw Nigella's photo in a newspaper and said, "Mama!" We do have similar colouring, but my figure tends towards angularity and my facial features are much less appealing.

He also thinks I'm the author of Once Upon a Potty.

When I was younger, people thought I was Cher. At university, it was Bebe Neuwirth (sp?) aka Lilith on Cheers (Frasier's wife).

Would much rather look like Uma Thurman, Hilary.

myalias · 16/04/2003 23:18

I've been told I look like Emma Samms (actress in Dynasty) Gloria Estefan, Sheena Easton, Isabella Rosselini, the dark haired girl from the Human League, Anne Diamond and David Gahn lead singer with Depeche mode, funnily enough my brother resembles him more than me.

griffy · 16/04/2003 23:29

I was once told I looked like Bonny Langford... uh oh

Libby65 · 17/04/2003 00:02

I always used to get told that I looked like Madonna - this was late 80's/early 90's when she was doing Like a Virgin & all her earlier songs.

Now occasionally I get Heather Locklear but I really look nothing like her...
