Can I ask a technical question about funerals and bodies please?

As it's always good to plan one's funeral and I have time on my hands at the mo... I was thinking I'd like my body (or my DH's, why not plan his too) to come home before the funeral, for people to visit if they want, kids to chat to etc. Like they did in the olden days and in other cultures.
Has anyone had to arrange / been involved in something like this? How easy is it? What are the technicalities to be aware of?

My family are welsh and they nearly always do this.

It's simple really, you (or your family if you're the one who'se died) just appoint an undertaker and tell them your wishes. They deal with all the transport and obviously they'll deal with paperwork/technicalities regardless of where the deceased is held.

The thing is, you might like your body to come home, but would your family like that to happen? Also, you can only ask for this, if your family don't want to do it, they can't be forced just because you've said you'd quite like it, iyswim.
