If your house/flat doesn't have a visible name or number, why not?

Been delivering NCT newsletters today, this issue has driven me mad!
And don't get me started on gated developments.

cos it was manky and dh pulled if off when we moved in. Therefore we had no name or number (he pulled the name off too!) for about 2 yrs. We were "next doors to 45 opposite 22)LOL

Mine has no number, has house name on front but large hedge mean it can't be seen from street, and you have to come through gate to see.
Tis a pain in the arse when calling cabs etc, but is rented so not mine to do anything about.

Ours doesn't but that is because we live in a small French village and the mailboxes are gathered together at a few spots in the village. None of the houses have either a number or a street name attributed to them (although we do have street names posted up on most of the bigger streets).

Our address is just our name followed by "Le Village" then the name of the village and the post code.

'cos DH is too lazy busy to put the plaque up that I bought 5 years ago. Luckily both houses either side have visable numbers so not really a problem

On the mini estate I live on they replaced the main doors to each block with nicer ones, but didn't replace the plaque which had the name and the numbers on. I kept on for about a year about that and now the new signs are bigger and up high so delivery people can see them when they drive past. It's delivery people who matter. Your friends know where you live already.

Btw can I just say to all people who deliver leaflets etc that if the sign says "1 to 18 odd" that means only 9 flats in all. Lately we get 18 copies of each free newspaper and leaflet. Each evening there is a whole trees worth of paper lying inside the main door.

Our house has 3 signs saying who we are and the only house in the hamlet of 6 that looks like a farmhouse and still people fail to deliver.
