Ah wonderful MNHQ, thank you very much

Right, will re-type rest but this time without the flying fingers and with brain engaged!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAS!!! I hope you have had a lovely day

Hotcross, you are clearly a FAB teacher and what a lovely message from ex-tutee's mum! Bit though that she is already putting the downers on school and all it has to offer. She needs to think beyond acedamic success and think about her little boy's social skills etc. Poor little mite.
Could you set yourself up as a tutor? So work from home, pupils came to you? You would not have to worry about B (pupils could come after school or int he evening?) You could work as much or as little as you feel able to. You would be your own boss and it (teaching) is something you are clearly good at!

I have had a fab day at school today. I loved it. Boy tried really hard in literacy. In numeracy the teacher gave the rest of the class a test to sit, asked me to mark a previous test (answer sheet provided so could not go wrong really ) and she then spent some one to one time with boy.
She thinks he is dyslexic and has trouble seeing. I had my suspicions on both but still put it down to the boy's lack of education. Any way, hopefully this will mean the SENCO can do further assessments so we get a complete picture of what he needs. But he was lovely today and tried hard. I have made him a sticker chart and the SENCO has agreed that for every 10 stickers he earns he will get a small prize. It has really spurred him on Senco has also told me to come up with a timetable to cover maths lessons, although teacher now wants me to work in class with him more so will see how it all pans out. But felt happy to be there today and confident in what I was doing. I really really hope this job works out because I think I am going to absolutely love it

Right, better go. Have to collect E from a friend's house before heading up to O's school for a school trip meeting. The offering for this year's trip is Stone Farm in Devon Should be great!

MAS, I hope you enjoy the rest of your day

hippipotamiHasLost66lbs · 17/09/2009 17:27

Oh, it wasn't you or hotcross I was worried about MAS, but our school is soooo big there must be MNters amonst the parents and I was worried about someone else reading this thread and knowing who I am talking about as my pictures and posting name (the weightloss bit) make me a bit identifiable.

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/09/2009 21:53

yay ! things are looking up there hippi - hooray !!
Have had a v nice bday indeed
when is yours hotcross ?

hotcrossbunny · 18/09/2009 12:36

Morning! There are so many posts from last night - gosh, you were busy! And we have a message deleted post on our thread. Exciting

Yum to Yum Yums! Haven't had one for years. Glad you had a nice day MAS.

It sounds like the boy is shaking down a bit and getting used to school and to you hippi. Great that they're assessing his needs and will hopefully put in place more support/guidelines for you to carry out. He's a lucky boy to have someone who cares so much working with him.

I know what you mean about other Mners from your school. I often worry about what I'm writing. I know one friend MNs, but we haven't shared nicknames etc, so I've no idea if she knows who I am on here. I certainly haven't identified her... We occasionally chat about some of the interesting threads/prominent posters. I'm not a prolific poster, apart from on here, so not overly conspicuous I don't think.

Have been at a PTA meeting this morning which was pretty much a bunfight. Too many people shouting over each other etc, think we probably need to be a bit more formal to get more done in the time. There is one very very irritating woman who is going to drive us all mad and I've just found out she's now involved in sorting the library too, so there will be no nice relaxing couple of hours sorting and labelling

B's off to a friend's for tea, so I have a nice long afternoon ahead. How lovely

MaryAmericanSmooth · 20/09/2009 15:36

ahem ! ^

hippipotamiHasLost66lbs · 20/09/2009 20:15

MaryAmericanSmooth · 20/09/2009 20:29

hippipotamiHasLost66lbs · 20/09/2009 20:44

hotsalsaingbunny · 20/09/2009 21:03

MaryAmericanSmooth · 20/09/2009 21:32

hippipotamiHasLost67lbs · 21/09/2009 07:37

Noooooo - I will not not not have a strictly come dancing name....
I can't stand that show, so no dancing name for me

MaryAmericanSmooth · 21/09/2009 08:36

hippi - what's not to love about Strictly ?

hotchachachaingbunny · 21/09/2009 13:13

Have changed again as I thought I should probably keep my initials hcb! Bit of a mouthful, but imagining Craig RH saying it helps

MaryAmericanSmooth · 21/09/2009 14:35

oh I love him saying that - you'd never think he was Australian !

hotchachachaingbunny · 21/09/2009 15:22

Me too! Makes me laugh every time. He was very free and easy with his 'daarling's as well!

Am sitting here sneezing and sneezing and feeling sorry for myself. I woke up with a sore throat and it's obviously going to be a cold. Wonderful. Should be cleaning, but am wasting time on here instead

Did you have a good weekend? We went to Mizens Railway with friend yesterday, and then went back to his house and played Jenga all afternoon, which was very funny. B was really good at it!

MaryAmericanSmooth · 21/09/2009 16:46

poor you - there are v nasty cold bugs around..my parents were suffering all last week...wrap up and drink lots of liquids. Quiet w/end here but nice Thai take away on Saturday and some cocktails !
Hope you've had a good day hippi

hotchachachaingbunny · 22/09/2009 10:43

Morning!

Am keeping my germs to myself today, so cancelled my eye test this morning as I felt sure the optician could do without me coughing and snuffling over her.

When I drag myself off MN I'm going to do a bit of paperwork sorting, which is always a joy, but will at least make me feel like I've achieved something!

Hope you're both having a nice day - it's lovely and sunny here, so really I should do some gardening.

MaryAmericanSmooth · 22/09/2009 10:48

get well soon hotcross !

hippipotamiHasLost67lbs · 22/09/2009 14:47

Get well soon hotcross

All is well here - work is fine. Am still finding the one to one hard at times but have some ideas of what to do with the boy so should soon be able to fill my hours with him in a productive manner
The SENCO is trying to push for a full-time statement for the boy which means he will have a one to one in with him all day every day, and I am already fretting in case I have to give up my 5 permanently contracted hourse to go full-time SEN (which is always a temporary contract as the children have a habit of leaving/moving to SN schools etc)
Oh well, what will be will be...

Better go - badminton with the TA's tonight adn still lots to do before then

hotchachachaingbunny · 23/09/2009 10:35

Thank you for your get well messages Am still streaming, but don't feel quite so out of it.

Glad work is going OK Hippi. IME statements take so long to come through, you wont need to worry for quite some time! Hope badminton was fun - gosh, social life too!

Am trying to get up off my bottom and do something today B has an extra ballet lesson tonight to prepare for the exam - eek! Am trying to play it all down, but I think the word 'exam' was mentioned at her lesson yesterday...

MaryAmericanSmooth · 23/09/2009 13:33

yay for badminton !
feel better v soon hotcross
Exams are scary really -am sure B will be just fine. T has his grade 1 in December and have just paid for it plus the £19 for the accompanist (sp ?) - he is learning a new folk song, to be sung unaccompanied. I'm always amazed at how he has the courage to sing, unselfconsciously !
My agent has at last had her website updated so I now have my pages on it,plus a small biog. - looks quite good- really hope work comes in now ! (have posted it on my fb page if you have a mind to look !)
Anyway, must crack on with some work now...just getting some ideas together really. Saw the lady who most often accompanied me to radiotherapy in the hospital cars today - she looked v well and was really nice to see her.Apparently her back was burned after rads. which can happen as the beams pass through - eek !

hippipotamiHasLost67lbs · 23/09/2009 14:42

Hello you two! Gosh, I am so impressed with the music and ballet exams!! My children don't do anything like that.... [minor fret]

Work was good today. Boy a bit hard work but nothing I could not cope with Had a TA staff meeting at lunchtime - a bit of a hooha about working hours and the worry of being on temporary contracts linked to statements. Apparently the new head wants to have permanent general TA's and a bank of SEN TA's who are tied to statements. Needless to say most of the TA's there enjoy the fact they do both roles and don't want to be tied to either one or the other.
I stayed out of that argument but did volunteer to accompany the SENCO to the local specialist autism school for a training session. She asked if anyone wanted to go, no-one volunteered (for reasons not entirely clear to me) so I volunteered Any bit of further knowledge will be helpful to me in the long run Plus it will be very interesting!!

Better go, time to collect the urchins from school and endure the hell that is the gymnastics run!

Badminton was great last night but I ache in places I did not know it was possible to ache. It was a fab workout, I came away all red, sweaty and out of puff!

MAS, would love to see your agent's website (especially your bit) but cannot face the confusing jungle that is FB - could you post a link here?

MaryAmericanSmooth · 23/09/2009 14:48

Excellent to hear that things settling down with your new job hippi - the training at the specialist autism school will be interesting I'm sure - I can imagine you volunteering while the others sit on their hands!! Will email you a link if you like rather than flaunt myself on mn
