How do you get beautiful smooth legs?

Sorry nothing to do with being a mum really but being able to bare my legs this year would make me feel better about myself.

How do you get lovely smooth legs? The hairs on my legs are very coarse and grow back quite dark considering I am blonde. I also tend to get a lot of ingrowing hairs and my skin is quite dry, so they look a bit scaly. Hairy and scaly - lovely eh!!

What can I do to get them looking nice before the summer is here? I'm fed up with wearing skirts that trail on the floor.

Ditto Hairylegs!! Is there a way to do it without having to go get them waxed.... I don't time for that!

hairylegs · 07/04/2003 14:40

Me neither Mum2toby! I've got 3 young kids and I'd probably have to take them all with me. I did have them waxed before but it was so painful, worse I think because the hairs are so coarse. Ouch!

How do you get lovely smooth legs?

Do they do leg transplants?

Exfoliate, moisturise and wax. Also remember that the photos you see of models legs have been touched up with a little computer brush. Some fake tan too probably!!! (miaow)

Does anyone use an epilator? Are they any good?

SimonHoward · 09/04/2003 19:29

Dare I suggest a belt sander?

SoupDragon · 09/04/2003 19:31

Ooooooh!

Ha! SimonHoward's remark would amuse my dh enormously. Dh sometimes waxes my legs for me - I'm not brave enough to do my own. I think he enjoys it in a sadistic sort of way. Shaving is all very well but I can only do it once a week or my legs get really sore. Am waiting for a magic pill which makes the hair on your head lovely and unwanted hair disappear!

Claireandrich · 09/04/2003 20:42

I shave every morining in the shower. Doing it every day keeps it down and I do a good longer shave with creams and gels in the bath every week or so. To avoid dry legs I use baby oil on wet legs after every shower which seems to work for me.

Can't do waxing - no pain threshold. I have my eye borws waxed. Only takes a couple of minutes but it hurts like mad! Can't use the hair creams either as they seem to leave my skin looking red and sore.

Angie - I use an epilator. It is fine once you get going, although I find that I get more ingrowing hairs than with a professional wax.

Has anyone tried that Strawberry scented spray from Australia that was advertised on the TV sone time ago?

Acted as a depilitary but you just sprayed it on, waited a few mins and then washed the area and the hairs just fall away?

DW and a few female friends have all said they'd try it but we haven't found anywhere to buy it.

Right, big hairy lady here..take note of below:

Waxing needs to be done properly to avoid ingrowing hairs and you have to pluck out the dodgy ones left behind. Even though I'm a good waxer (can even make my own) I get it done professionally as can't stand the contortions when doing it yourself. Also, if the therapist doesn't do it properly (i.e. hold skin taut and pull in right direction, not change waxing cloth) I tell her and go elsewhere.

Exfoliating with a loofah, not those ridiculous creams with bits in them is good, but I don't have time for that.

As for smoothness, shiney, brown legs, you should put baby oil on your legs as stepping out of shower/bath BEFORE drying i.e. oil wet legs and pat dry they'll be gorgeous.

But remember, your skirts should never be so short that your children are embarrassed
