I am thinking of bidding on eBay - is it safe and reliable. I don't want to be stung !

hmm - you've just reminded me that i haven't heard anything from the guy who sold me a dictionary yet...

However, my entire circle of family and friends have recently become addicted to Ebay with (so far) not one problem. Before you bid though, it might be worth checking the seller's feedback (there'll be a link on the details page) - and maybe start with small items until you get used to it!

If you check the seller's feedback themn there shouldn't be a problem. Of course, it is all based on trust so there is an element of risk but I have not had a problem in the 14 months I've been using it.

Read the description very carefully, check the seller's feedback and email any questions you have about the item to the seller before bidding.

I've used Ebay a lot and now actually had to ban myself. I never had a problem with everything being sent to me and even one lady returning some excess postage that I had paid for and she didn't need to use in the end.

Everything I have bought has been clean, well cared for and worth the money.

The only problem with it is I found it addictive (like gambling to a degree) and as I said above have had to ban myself from looking at the site (too often anyway). There were times when I was bidding on things (campervans for example) I didn't want just for the excitement factor. Yes, my life is very boring. The relief when I didn't get them was amazing. My son now has far too many toys as I went crazy over a 5 month period.

I've decided it's much safer to be addicted to mumsnet than ebay as I don't spend nearly as much money.

I love ebay and have bought loads from it without any problems. Don't forget that most credit cards offer automatic protection for your purchases anyway.

I've returned excess postage before! I use Ebay mainly for selling McDonald's Happy Meal toys.
