I keep on geeting "Messenger Service" popups - telling me how to enhance my sexlife ... how did they know
I do not want my kids to see these. Just recently there was a message saying - " to stop popus go to pop-up-destroyer.com".
Is this a legitimate site? I do not want to register my e-mail and then be innundated with MORE rubbish.
Thanks

Crytaltips I keep hoping that someone will answer your question as I have the same problem. I think it's since I tried to get my e-mail accessible from the desktop.

So please someone help!

To stop this you can disable the Messenger service. Its easy enough to reverse at a later time if you wish to do so.

Windows 2000
Click Start-> Settings-> Control Panel-> Administrative Tools->Services
Scroll down and highlight "Messenger"
Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
Click the STOP button.
Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK

Windows XP Home
Click Start->Settings ->Control Panel
Click Performance and Maintenance
Click Administrative Tools
Double click Services Scroll
down and highlight "Messenger"
Right-click the highlighted line and choose properties.
Click the STOP button.
Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK

Windows XP Professional
Click Start->Settings ->Control Panel
Click Administrative Tools
Click Services
Double click Services Scroll
down and highlight "Messenger"
Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
Click the STOP button.
Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK

Windows NT
Click Start ->Control Panel
Double Click Administrative Tools
Select Services-> Double-click on Messenger
In the Messenger Properties window, select Stop,
Then choose Disable as the Startup Type
Click OK

Thank you ! Thank You ! Thank You !
Just followed your instructions so that should do the trick! You seem to know what you are talking about - so - out of interest - what is the messenger Service - and how come it's been activated ?
Did I say Thank you ?
