Making a will part 2

Has anyone else recently made a will? I am in the middle of doing both mine and DH's at the minute. I'm not so bothered doing mine it's doing DH's will that I am finding so distressing and hard as I don't agree with his wishes, he isn't legally minded enough to do it on his own, and I can't bear the thought of losing him, has anyone else ever had to do the will for their partner, and if so how did they deal with it

Are you married? If so then you probably don't even need a will as whoever dies first will automatically leave the house if you own one to the other spouse, plus the first £180k of any other estate. If you are not married then perhaps you should think in terms of if you split up how your joint possessions would be shared rather than if one of you died?

You're brave, Chiccadum. I wouldn't try to do DH's. I think you should finish your own will first and then work on your DH's when you feel you can.

I spent a lot of time going over the "options". If I die, who gets some of my savings. If DH & I die together, what to do with our house, who gets the kids. If the kids die with us -- who gets our estate then? If DH & I and our first choice of guardian for the kids all die together, who gets the kids then?. All so morbid... but important. I did the will 3 years ago and have I updated it? Heck no. So good job I did it thoroughly the first time.
