Where abouts in the country are you?

DeadTall · 20/02/2009 19:29

Sorry - should have said! Medium sized town in Bedfordshire. We've used the staff from the local nursery up to now as they know our children from when they went there as toddlers. But their rates seem to have risen sharply so I'd like to know what's reasonable!

I pay the staff from nursery 5 pounds an hour. We are a small town in a rural area

spudmasher · 20/02/2009 19:31

£6 an hour. Fairly central london.

Twims · 20/02/2009 19:38

I charge £6 an hour

adults is diffo imo

If kids all in bed nothing to do NO WAY am I paying £5 an hour( teens).

I tell them this as I ply them with a sky remote, chocolate and coke.

Am off out tomorrow, my rates are rounded but would be:

  1. 7 30pm - 11 ( so incl telling kids to go to bed) £12 ish maybe?
  2. 8pm - 11 ( bang on, kids all in rooms) £10
  3. 8-12 £20
  4. 8 - 11 30 £15 ish?

i often over pay on time then under the next. I have no problem getting sitter as the children as so compliant. They occasionally bring mates with them.

TBh I would babysit for me for those rates. i would pay danger money if one had been a PITA

Claire2301 · 20/02/2009 23:36

I babysit in Cambridge and Royston (small-ish town) and generally charge £5 an hour.

Thanks for the rates everyone.

I'm going to stick with approx £6ph - on this occasion we need our babysitter to put my DH (7) to bed, with a bed time drink, story & supervising teeth brushing etc. My DS (9) is self-sufficient, but can talk the hind legs off a donkey so she'll have to put up with a bit of an ear bashing until 9pm! And she may do reading with him too.

Does anyone pay more for 'late' hours, i.e. after midnight?
