My friends and I are organising a school reunion. It will be 21 years this year since we left secondary school and are planning reunion for this September. Has any one had a school reunion recently and do you have any good ideas?

Thanks

I've been to 3 in the last 11 years. We held the first one actually in the school hall- that was weird!
2nd one & most recent one were in a pub, outside in the garden bit. They all went off really well. Hardest bit was tracking everyone down.

I went to one in November. It was held in a local hotel in the town, and there was a disco and a buffet(obviously a bar!!!) Someone had collected a load of photos of us and various teachers/ hockey teams etc and they were on a loop showing against a wall- really good reminder, and a surprise cos I was there and I definately didn't give anyone my photos! Best part was just catching up with people hadn't seen for years, but were really glad to see, iykwim.
Ps girls def. wear better than boys!

We had one a couple of years ago. Most people were contacted either through friends reunited or by an ad in the local newspaper. We had the school photo on the wall and disposable cameras were put on each table. I had a brilliant time and would love another one.

I know what you mean sammac about girls wearing better than boys, I wanted to know who all the balding fat men were?

I went to my 10 year school reunion a couple of years ago. It was in one of the pubs where we just to go as sixth formers - but in a side room. It was very relaxed and informal - just chatting and looking at some old photos.

Thanks for all your replies.

We were planning doing something with old school photographs, also did you have name badges, that was another suggestion. I would like to invite a few teachers as well but one or two are not keen on that idea. We are planning a buffet and 80's disco. Any money over we will put to local charity. We have emailed everybody on Friends Reunited that were in our year. We will also advertise in local press, will advertise also by posters etc in local shops.

Any other ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks

One other tip- new outfit and hair dresser visit that day.
And diet for a month beforehand!!!
Only thing I thought would have been interesting would have been a non-quiz type thing. By that I mean, who had the most children/ oldest children/ youngest baby/ most fantastic job- obviously not me!! I just wanted to show off I had a baby when many were becoming grandparents.
We did have name stickers- but that just gave the men an easy excuse to check out our boobs legitimately!!!

sammac

I laughed when I read your message. Yes I am going to get a new outfit, also hair and nails done. I started Scottish Slimmers on Tuesday so hopefully I will be a few stones down before I go!! I hardly ever go out, have never had my nails done so I am going to treat myself. I could imagine the boys will like the girls stickers, I will have to remember that one!! LOL

And go to a different pub beforehand for a couple of courage giving drinks. My friend was really nervous and didn'y enjoy it at first- she's now blonde but was dark and not a lot of people recognised her. Me- my hair's almost the same colour as when I was 12- with a little help from my friends!!!At £80 a shot!)

Sammac absolutely agree about diet, hair and nails. I did all of that plus the fake tan and a gell filled bra. I had a name badge but I hid it under my jacket. My friend recognised a girl who we used to be friends with. She was very pretty and popular with the lads, she was also the school bully always calling us horrible names etc. I didn't recognise her at first, the years haven't been kind to her. When we went up to her she didn't recognise us and asked us who we were I flashed my name badge at her and she couldn't believe we were the same girls and said that we looked absolutely beautiful. Other lads who we really fancied told us we looked so young, one of them told me I only looked 20. I have never had so many compliments in one evening, especially as I'm knocking 38. Totally agree about the girls wearing well and the lads going to pot. A gorgeous guy at school, who most of us girls wanted to look out for, had a huge shock when he turned up. He looked like he had been released from The local OAP home, he was bald, wrinkly and what had happened to that 6 pack? Our reunion was last year it was held at our local football club. It was 21 years since we had left school. The organisers advertised in the local paper and set up a database for any future reunions. It was a fantastic night and hopefully we will have another one in a few years time. Dread to think what the men will look like then.

Aah, I feel jealous now. I went to a reunion about 15 years ago and it was horrible! Swore never to go to one again (which is really funny now as even if I wanted to go to one I couldn't as I went to school in South Africa). Lorne, well done on taking up the organising side of things, I hope you have a fabulous time!

josiejump · 09/04/2003 20:26

I'm in the same boat- organising a reunion to be held in October. Most of us left 23 years ago. Having recently been to a friends 40th birthday party and being reintroduced to two old school 'mates', I'm totally ashamed to say that I can't for the life of me remember who they are. I'm starting to worry that I'll spend the night of the reunion having to pretend that I know who I'm talking to!

tallulah · 09/04/2003 20:35

I spent the last one saying "I'm sorry, who are you?" to most people! (We didn't have name badges). Our boys were also all fat & bald... they weren't at the first one!
