How to fit a starter onto a kitchen light......

I bought a new starter for the kitchen light today as it was flickering. I thought i had put it in right but now it still flickers, just flicks on a second longer. Is it me doing it wrong or is there something wrong with the light?

If it's not in properly the light won't come on at all so the starter is probably fine. Sounds like the light is knackered. Sorry.
