Has anyone ever bought a wig?

Hi, my hair often looks awful just when I have the least time to spend on it. I am toying with the notion of a wig. I have my suspicions that this option isn't the stress-free solution I am hoping for. However, I am happy to style/primp/fiddle/ spray etc during the day/evening/when I have time - just not first thing in the morning. I quite like the look of my hair when it works right (not that often ) so I don't really want to change the style or colour and would get a wig that looks quite like my own hair on a good day.
Has anyone out there taken the plunge into wigs (sounds pervy, but you know what I mean!) and what are your experiences? Do those cheap synthetic ones look like your DDs' Barbies after a while?
PS - I wouldn't care if folks knew it was a wig.

I had two. They made my head a bit hot and itchy. They were pretty cheapo. They were easy to bung on though, and no, even my cheapies didn't fankle.

I hadn't thought about the hot and itchy issue. Hmm - I can't even put up the hood on my rainmac without being irritated by the "hotness". I always thought I would rather have "rained on" hair than "sweaty" hair. If this is a factor, it may be that I may have to shelve the wig idea.
