Had to share this with someone. My dad just called me - he is delighted to have bought 4 leather jackets and a 'Canomatica' camera from an Italian man he met whilst taking the dog for a walk. The man apparently was only selling this stuff to pay for a ticket home. My dad paid £250 for the lot. My mum is staying with me this week and will go completely mad when she finds out. I am really angry that my poor old dad has been taken advantage of

I'm sure I heard something similar on Kilroy a few months ago. I remember this couple getting approached by a man who opened up the boot of his car and offered this couple jackets. Can't remember the price they paid but the jackets were supposed to be ARMANI (I think) but they were actually fakes and not worth a fiddlers fart.A right scam. I hope this has not happened to your Dad. Let us know how you get on. P.S He needed his fare home aswell.

we were approached last year, whilst at some motorway services - just about to get into the car when a man pulled up alongside and wound his window down. Said he was on his way home to Italy, and had been showing these Armani jackets at some fashion event in London, and these remaining two hadn't sold. Long and short of it was, we could have the jackets, just give him some money to cover his hire car - which amounted to over £100, probably nearer £200 as I recall. Didn't take him up on the offer - not least because the jackets looked a bit out dated - and the ladies one was in purple! Sounds like we had a near miss - didn't realise something similar had been on Kilroy. Hope your dad got a genuine bargain grommit, but can't help feeling sceptical

Well if he's happy, then he thinks he's got a good deal. Perhaps you could suggest he tells her he found them or something!

Funny, my DH has met this Italian man needing his ferry ticket home selling jackets in Scotland a couple of years ago. The jacket was horrible, very outdated and supposidly leather but very obviously not (my DH must be even more gulable that your DH jobey). I was v annoyed at DH buying the jacket and he made out he was happy with it and wore it was about two years, until it was all tatty and torn. Was very glad to see the back of that jacket. I hope your dad hasn't been ripped off gromitt but it doesn't sound hopeful .

I have tried to explain to him that he has been conned but he really still belives he has done nothing wrong. He is quite old and vulnerable but then he has always had a trusting nature. I asked an Italian colleague about the 'Canomatica' camera and he sent me a link to a police bulletin in italy about fake cameras! My sister and I have started to see the funny side and imagining our whole family going out toether in our 1980's fake leather coats - agghhh! Mum is horrified at the thought of having to go out with my dad in his! Thanks for the replies everyone
