Is anyone going to watch this documentary tonight? I don't know if I can, I am a SAHM so it doesn't effect me directly but I HATE seeing children mistreated!!

Is it the one about the nannies on ITV at 9.20.If it is I am definitely watching this one.

Lara2 · 03/04/2003 20:27

As long as it doesn't clash with ER on E4!! It sounds very interesting from all angles.

Lindy · 03/04/2003 22:53

Didn't anyone watch it? I was expecting lots of juicy comments; I only watched the last half hour or so but my immediate reaction was that if you were suspicious enough to rig up spy cameras - how on earth could you leave your children in this situation?

doormat · 03/04/2003 23:01

I watched it and thought it was sick., If it was me the nanny would not of got past the door without a baseball bat whacked round her fr*ggin head and then called the police.Their should be one governing body that checks up on these so called "chilminders" not social" bleedin "services
It was so scary and I felt for all those involved. My heart wept for all those poor kiddies.

I did not see it, as DH refused to watch it. Our DS's have been in Day Nursery since they were 9 months old, we chose a nusery for the very reason, that they would not be in the sole care of one person, but as Crystal1's experience has shown, thats not guarentee.

However,I did see the couple with the braindamaged child, on "This Morning", also felt it was heartbreaking.

I watche dit and was horrified. I'm with you on this one doormat. I don't think I could've watched the tape then just phoned the police. I'd have ripped her head off with my bare hands!

It was so shocking I was crying and I felt sick after watching it. I hope those women rot in hell.

Meanmum · 04/04/2003 09:01

I watched all of 1 minute of it when I was flipping channels. I felt physically ill and had to turn the TV off. I couldn't sleep for hours last night as I lay in bed remember just the 1 minute of the programme I saw.

My child is with a childminder but thank god she is an angel. Don't ask me how I know as it is just a gut feeling. Obviously when he doesn't even show any interest when I get to the door as he is too busy playing is a nice sign.

I second those views on violence towards people that can be so cruel and callous to children. I'm not into violence at all but it seems to bring out some primal instinct within me.

By the way, nannies who qualify in Australia go through far more rigorous checks and training so if you are thinking about getting one maybe consider this.

Also, a friend of mine used to be a nanny and she was giving me tips on how to interview them. Basically don't be afraid to ask anything. In one interview the woman had her on the floor pretending to be a lion and play acting with her daughter. She got the job but she also said she was happy to go through all of those questions and actions because it showed that the mother really cared about her child and the care her child was going to be getting.

Something I hadn't thought of before and why do we feel guilty asking some questions of people that are looking after our children.

I watched about 5 minutes and then couldn't watch anymore. I agree with Lindy - how could those parents have left there children in a situation where they were so worried about their safety!!

tigermoth · 04/04/2003 12:11

agree with ks that there needs to be a big shake up to ensure nanny agencies and social services make proper checks. The names of the nanny agencies were kept secret. I wish it had been within legal boundaries to name and shame.

It is so wrong that a childminder with 9 complaints against her and a court case abandoned because a key witness died can continue to work. It was chilling to hear the reporter say Croydon Council wanted to stike her off the list, but were powerless to do so.

The nanny video footage was frightening, too. I hope a national nanny register is started as a result.

Missed last nights programme but was it a repeat. I remember seeing something on a few years ago and it showed hidden camera footage and horrible, horrible nannies, I think they were mainly in America.

Couldn't bring myself to watch last nights as the other programme was so harrowing and DS2 has been with 2 nannies for the last month (he starts at nursery on Monday).

crystal1 · 04/04/2003 15:37

I missed last nights programme !!!
Does anyone know if it will be on again ...i think maybe i should get hold of them !
