I'm impressed by "yellow". Does he know what it means? But why "speakers"?

Ailsa · 20/04/2003 23:27

"I thought so, but didn't like to say anything", usually said by those that hadn't, but didn't want to feel left out!!

whymummy · 20/04/2003 23:53

who you talking to in there?asked by dh everytime i`m on mumsnet, grrrrr

SoupDragon · 21/04/2003 08:20

I too don't like ta from grown ups but taught it to both DSs as it's way easier than thank you. DS2 (26 months) has recently graduated to "tanktoo" instead. Hurrah!

My mum actually starts heaving whenever she hears the words mucus and phlegm.

I hate the word pubes for pubic hair. It really disgusts me.
Also the word tummy, and cheers, goodness knows why.

I also agree with robyn3 about using words like gee gee for horse, dodo for dummy and ta for thankyou although the last ones not so bad I suppose, because if you wait for them to learn to say thank you you have to wait a lot longer for them to practice their manners. It doesn't seem to fair to confuse them and make them learn twice although I know loads of people who disagree and I don't suppose it does them any real harm!

I can't bear it when people say " at the end of the day"

Chinchilla · 21/04/2003 19:35

Oh yes Jude, he is always pointing at yellow things, and saying 'Yuh yuh'. He also knows the colours red, green and orange if you ask him to point them out in a book (well, 90% of the time). However, he gets a bit carried away when you praise him for pointing out yellow things, and then points at any colour and calls that one yellow too We're getting there though, and I think that this is good for 21 months isn't it?

'Speakers' came about because he is fascinated by them, and always pushing them. I tell him no, because dh is so anal about his speakers, and he seems to have picked up the word!

judetheobscure · 21/04/2003 19:57

Lol - it's always men that are anal about speakers.
Dead impressed by the colour recognition. My ds (the one before the ds that says "ta" too much!) has only just learnt his colours and he's 3 and a half.

Basically, at the end of the day the bottom line is that the word which upsets me a lot is "sorry". I don't want you to say you're sorry I want you to have not done that, and to never do it again. Hmph

Bugsy · 22/04/2003 09:58

my mum always refers to people kissing as "necking" - aaaaargh!

Chinchilla · 22/04/2003 22:57

When I was at school, we used to refer to good-looking boys as 'juicy'. Bleugh!
