CAN ANYONE GIVE ME SOME SEWING TIPS PLEASE?

Bought myself a beautiful dress to go to a wedding tomorrow. In typical Sparkler style, I have left it until the last minute to sort myself out.
The straps on the dress are a tiny bit long and the back of the dress goes down a bit too low and shows off my bra. I need to shorten the straps and don't know the best way I should do it.
They are thin straps - and I was thinking I could either cut a bit off each one and stitch it back (my sewing isn't very neat) or just fold the strap up under the seam and put a couple of small stitches in.
What should I do?
TIA

Personally I'd shorten the strap and sew it back in to the inside of the dress at the back. Try to carefully stitch into the inside layer of the dress so that the stitches aren't showing on the outside.

But if you are as bad at sewing as me do not take giraffeski's advice. I would end up with the whole lot coming unravelled

Thanks everyone. Shall sleep on it and do it in the morning. Wedding isn't until 1pm so I'll have a bit of time to sort it out. OMG!!

I find a stapler works well if the hem of my trousers falls down. Might be useful to know!

katesmum, your sewing skills sound as good as mine. I glued the hem on my top the other day, rotted almost instantly. Should have tried the stapler

I used to be a medical secretary before dds were born. Whenever I got a ladder in my tights - I used to temporarily fix it so it would last for the rest of the day with Tippex. Only did this when the ladder was high up on the leg under my skirts. I didn't go round with big white blobs showing around my knees and ankles!!!!! LOL
