I had a place at Uni last September to study midwifery. When I found out I was pg with ds I deferred my place for a year.
They will only hold it until this september and if I don't take it up then I will have to re-apply.
Should I go and do it?

Pros:
More money (my bursary is more than I was earning in my part time job)
council tax reduction
DS is more flexible than if he was at school
already have the place so wouldn't have to reapply
Will be done in 3 years and then will be entitled to key worker housing

Cons:
have to pay for childcare for ds
DS will only be 7 months old.. I'll miss him!
Course is full time (head of course says 35 hr a week)
juggling uni with small baby?

I just can't decide what to do, and they have sent me a letter asking me to confirm if I want the place or not.
Is anyone else here doing the course? Is it do-able with such a small baby? Is it better to do it now or wait til he is at school?

any advice gratefully received!

personally, I would do it theis year - but then I found going to work easier when my children were small.
In some ways they need you more when they are older - I stopped work when ds1 went to school

yeah... am feeling that maybe the benefits outweigh the bad bits...
i am just scared that i'll miss out on so much of him, i wanna be the one who sees him take his first steps, and say his first words...

do it... there is never the right time to do anything and as mum to 2 (one who is 5) they are always doing 'firsts' and even if you are at home with them 24/7 you could still miss the first word/step... my DH is a SAHD and he missed first steps as he was out at shops and I was at home working...

Go for it! I think there is never a 'perfect' time to do anything - you just have to grab the opportunities when they arrive. I was offered a fantastic 4 month contract doing something amazing when I was 5 months pregnant, and had to do it! It was hard, but so worth it!

Do the uni offer childcare at all? Might save on the childcare costs a bit.
