anyone watching this?

his coffin is sitting alone without a flower in sight.its very plain and there is a book lying on top , that looks like it has been put there very casually...makes the coffin look like a coffee table.
disagree with a lot of his beliefs and teachings but all the same..its very sad.

It's all part of the ceremony.

wobblyknicks · 08/04/2005 10:13

He'd want it to be simple, he lived with as little pomp as possible so he'd want to end like that.

i know .he has taken a vow of poverty so a grand and ornate coffin would be out of sync but all the same it looks really sad.

Ds saw the box and asked what was in there, so I explained it was a man who was 'The Pope', and he had died and was in the box. He said 'Do you mean it's Jesus?' so I said no, it wasn't, and he said 'I've got a really good idea - they could swap the Pope with Jesus, and they he could come back to life!!!'

He's 3!

I thought that about the coffin too but I suppose it makes sense.

Twiglett · 08/04/2005 10:42

he lived with as little pomp as possible

really?

chipmonkey · 08/04/2005 11:42

I think its sad the way no-one is close to the coffin. It looks isolated. And as Popes go Twiglett, he lived with RELATIVELY little pomp, compared to some of the others.

PMSL at "dressed as Santa"!!!

Marina · 08/04/2005 11:46

It was a jolt to hear that he had nothing to leave in his will...
I'm not a Roman Catholic but feel he was a strong and devout man, and am glad his earthly suffering is over.
LOL at your ds Tortoiseshell!

sacha3taylor · 08/04/2005 11:46

I'm not catholic, but still find it quite sad watching the funeral. LOL Aimsmum, at easter last year my ds (then 4) came home from nursery telling me that jesus was killed by a hot cross bun Think he got a bit confused with the easter story.

bakedpotato · 08/04/2005 11:52

I'm loving this scrum of world leaders heading out of the square

and that cool cardinal in his shades

eww, there's tony doing that thing

chipmonkey · 08/04/2005 11:53

Don't know Sacha, depends on where you get the hot cross buns, some of them could be dodgy!

sacha3taylor · 08/04/2005 11:55

He cried when I tried to buy some, thought they might kill him as well, I still laugh when I think about it

expatinscotland · 08/04/2005 11:55

The 'book' is the Gospel. He stated in his will that that was the only decoration he wanted on his coffin, that he wanted his coffin to be plain, and that he wanted it laid on the ground.
