I am the administrator but it won't let me - keeps saying I'm putting the wrong password in. (This is in the "reset password" section on User Accounts.

It is the password I use when I first switch the pc on, yes?

I really need to reset this password and quickly. Please help.

the administrator password can't be easily reset on a windows machine for security reasons

have you tried blank i.e. nothing?

It probably isn't the same as the password you log on as

Who installed your machine?

I think the only thing you can do is re-install windows...

What are you trying to do? Change the password that you use to log on? You should be able to do that without knowing the administrator password?

Or you could put a passworded screensaver on in the startup menu (possibly)

MaddieMoonlighting · 03/02/2009 10:03

Sorry MP, those were crossed posts

I'm very stressed here. I can't let him go on this pc anymore.

what operating system is it?

what exactly does it say when you log on? What name is above the password box?

What names are in the user manager? (user accounts)

MaddieMoonlighting · 03/02/2009 10:15

Thank you MP. I have done it but I don't know how. I found a thing on HELP saying the log on password was the Windows password and to press ctrl/alt/delete to get the option to change it. So I tried that.. it was still saying I was putting the wrong password in! So I cancelled.. it went back to usual log on page asking me for password.. I put the usual one in.. didn't work! In the end I tried the first new one I tried to enter when I was trying to reset it in User Accounts on My Computer.. when it said it wasn't working... ... so it's reset anyway.. although have no idea how!
