DS1 (18months) goes to a nursery where they do baby signing with him. He now does quite a few signs but I'm not sure what the sign is for thank you which I'm pretty sure he's trying to use. He's not in now until next Monday, I forgot to ask the nusery staff and I'd like to reciprocate if he trys to say thank you to me. (as an aside, know I see how useful he finds signing to communicate I wish we'd gone down the road of doing it at home.)

thanks

If its the same as Makaton you put your hand flat to your mouth and move downwards.

I would really love to learn to sign to my ds (8 mths). Could anyone recommend a good book or video I could use?

Have a look here This is the same as the Makaton one Mieow mentions. It probably depends on which system the nursery are using. This site is American so may not be the same. If you know some other signs your son can use, you may be able to identify the correct "language".

DS2 picked up the Makaton signs for milk, biscuit and juice. I was very proud!

(some of the other signs on that site aren't the Makaton ones by the way)

The Joseph Garcia book Signing with your baby is excellent. You can get the book on Amazon. There is a video aswell but its about £50 for the book video kit and the book alone is considerably less and tells you all you need to know. I did signing with DS1 (now 3.5) and am doing it again with ds2 and can highly recommend it - ds1 had a silent tantrum on a shopping trip when he decided he wanted a banana, I must have looked very strange running through M&S food dept with a baby waving its arms about but saying nothing ! good luck with the signing !

Thanks everyone.

Crawthorne- Will log on amazon and get the book ordered today. thanks.
