francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2009 10:30

Think so

Bucharest · 30/01/2009 11:22

Oh gawd, just had horrific experience whilst collecting Mr Manflu's ricetta medica....
In the doc's studio, 2 old women sitting reading the mags and chuntering....There is an advert for an African charity thing (from what I could see over the room) and the first woman chucks the mag back on the table:
"Call this fashion? Huh? They think this way of dressing is fashion?" (the mag had African women in traditional dress in the photo.)
Then she starts:
They're dirty.
They like living like this, on the streets.
In the 1960s Italian men went over to Africa to help them learn "come vivere meglio" but they didn't want to learn.
They have "caratteri storti"
They sit on the streets and eat flies.
Now they're over here taking all our money.
They can't even speak correct Italian (she kept going on about "dicessero, dicessero- this man kept saying "dicessero instead of dissero . Do you see? They don't even speak properly".
Oh- and best yet- "they have all this land, and yet say they're hungry and expect us to feed them. Why don't they pick up some tools and grow their own food with all that land?"

Feel really sullied and like I need to wash this evil old trout out of my skin.

Urgh.

hothell · 30/01/2009 11:25

diamine!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 30/01/2009 11:35

I think it's pointless trying to explain things to that generation... they just have such distorted understanding of the reality that trying to put it right is pretty much a mission impossible. the only way would be to drop them in Darfur for a day really... and they're probably the ones that sit in the front bench in church when the Missionaries come visiting from Africa...

Bucharest · 30/01/2009 11:52

Exactly- They had that go-to-mass-3-times-a-day look about them...and the main one kept going on about how she was a teacher (eeek! bet it's scuola media)

I also loathed myself for just sitting there and pretending to doze against the wall instead of doing the smackdown on them, but I just don't have the energy for it....

francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2009 12:02

. How old were they? ...
I usually stare at this people trying to convey shock and contempt (not sure how well it works as I'm a bit strabica...)

francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2009 12:03

I'm coming down with a cold, I have a headache and I'm going to view 3 flats, which are considerably over budget

Bucharest · 30/01/2009 12:06

60-ish. Glasses round neck resting on capacious bosoms sort of age.....

Enjoy the flat viewing!

francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2009 12:14

oh i sessantenni Italiani can be vile........... (like 30, 20, 15, 50enni )

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 30/01/2009 12:21

oh, can't get my a*se off the chair today (another night with singing baby who also fed twice after having dropped night feeds for ages ). but better go hage the washing outside and take advantage of the sunshine...

francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2009 12:29

Sunflower, how's ds? Has he recovered?

francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2009 12:32

Feck, I forgot to hang the laundry . But now I have to go. gfhjkgafjkgfkjfgkjg

Brangelina · 30/01/2009 12:33

You have a singing baby? Put her on XFactor, at least that way you'll get some sleep.

Ugh at the racist befane, there are several around here as well, although their language tends to be more subtle. Lol at their example of immigrants not speaking Italian properly! DP is hard pushed getting his passato remoto right, I wonder what they'd think of him. There is so much racism here - albeit not all malign, just the rather ignorant assumptions people make about other populaces, a bit like British films of the 50s. Also absolutely no political correctness, I'm constantly having to pull DP up wrt to tacky jokey comments he's made about marocchini/bingo bongo/various handicaps ecc. as I don't want DD growing up with that level of ignorance.

Brangelina · 30/01/2009 12:37

So you're really househunting then? Wow. I wish you luck. Are you looking in the same area as you're in now?

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 30/01/2009 12:51

BRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrr, just frozen my hands hanging the washing, just done the big stuff though, otherwise I would have turned into ice if I'd stayed there hanging bodysuits and small underpants, brrrrrrrrr, porrige and maple syrup I think now...

DS is fine, thanks, I think it was just that he took advantage of me washing DD and DP fixing the dryer, so he stuffed his face with peanuts. As he only had riso in bianco and corn cakes yesterday, he had pane and nutella for breakfast (and me too )

Brange, she's probably better than some I've seen on there.. she's funny and cute and that's even worst cos we're sleep-deprived, and try to keep a straight face and ignore her, but it's so hard and we always end up laughing so she gets even louder......

Rosa · 30/01/2009 13:30

My father drives me insane and my mother as well and every once we both have a blast at him in a while with racist comments - he is old style ex military. He served in Africa, Singapore etc so I can leave it to your imagination. However I can't wait to see what he says about Obama. He doesn't do it nastily and sometimes he tries too hard. E.g At hospital - seeing senior doctor - 'oh he was very nice , and professional especially as he was Indian / african etc.
Sunflower watch out if its the same virus as dd1 then you get a lovely cold about 4 days later 2 of her minimates have had exactly the same thing.
Have new cleaner coming this pm and have made dh tidy up - as in put things away so she can clean. Its only 4 a few weeks til the original comes back.
Franca good luck we are keeping eys / ears open and dh going to see a new bank - more aout of the box one which has better mortgage deals but not at the scanning through paper stage yet

gio71 · 30/01/2009 14:18

at old racist bags! Will never ever understand people like that, whatever generation they are from. My FIL (old nutter for any of you who haven't heard my past rants about him), gave us the benefit of his view on Obama the other day and after he accused him of lying to get elected blah blah yawn blah for half an hour he finished his words of wisdom with "and he's probably a cannibal"
