Ciao

Franca - thanks for your email. I replied earlier though was typing from my phone so it may have come out a bit funny.

I am exhausted. Dd is not well still and woke up around 15 times last night and stayed awake for anything from 20 minutes to an hour .

Off to bed now.

Buona notte
MM

beforesunrise · 28/01/2009 21:23

ciao everybody, and thanks for having me! I feel a bit shaken I must admit!

I also live in London and I also have two dds- 3yrs and 9 months.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 28/01/2009 21:25

Ciao Beforesunrise, I'm an Italian in UK. Been here for 11 years, have a DS and a DD. saw that thread earlier, but I just stick to giggles-thread here and my postnatal and real nappy threads, as there always seem to be people out on a witch-hunt or a fight! And there's enough of that in RL!!

Penthesileia · 28/01/2009 21:28

Have posted on your thread, Pippi - how strange? Were you rebuffed by the receptionist, or what?

Penthesileia · 28/01/2009 21:37

Saw your thread, beforesunrise...

Wow! A true initiation into AIBU - you were totally flamed!

You have to remember that AIBU gives people the opportunity to be holier than thou and vent their spleen on the OP. I do get where you were coming from, though. I'm a university lecturer, and I'm constantly horrified by the poor standard of grammar that I see. You're not wrong to think it's not something we should be defending.

francagoestohollywood · 28/01/2009 21:39

Internet connectio went AGAIN. It gets cut for 20 mins wtf?

MM, sorry to hear your dd is still unwell. I'm going to the post office tomorrow and send you Pimpa

hothell · 28/01/2009 21:51

Ciao bsunrise, I read your thread, mumsnet at its worse, mamma mia, the vitriol! Che lingue acide.Wonder why they attacked you so badly, you made a perfectly valid point and there was no malice on your part. What else you didn't like about the school? I am quite curious about the private school world and if paying lots of money really gets kids a better education or just better connections.

hothell · 28/01/2009 21:53

Che vaiasse, come si dice al mio paese.

hothell · 28/01/2009 22:02

i thought lecchino could also be translated with the word sycophant, does anyone know?

PippiCalzelunghe · 28/01/2009 22:04

hei Hot . how are ya? are we going to meet up during half term? yes that thread was foul. the 'holier than thou' attitude is what I dislike the most about MN tbh.

sunny, my daughters are 3 and 9 months!!!!!

franca I hope it's just a receptioninst issue. the thought of having to walk up the hill rather than throw my dd to school everymorning kills me ! I've decided I'll go tomorrow.

PippiCalzelunghe · 28/01/2009 22:05

ah penthe d'ya want me to talk dirty to you? I'm doing the nutella thingy again !! (PS 2 for 2.50 in ocado atm)

francagoestohollywood · 28/01/2009 22:08

BS: I saw your thread and I think it covered many MN taboos (private education, fees and criticism to school's standards). There is also - I think - a major cultural misunderstanding, as I don't really think that for us who grew up in Italy, being corrected in public is a big deal or remotely humiliating.

Penthesileia · 28/01/2009 22:12

Oh yeah, baby.......

God. I'd kill for some Nutella now.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 28/01/2009 22:13

you naughty! DS tells me I'm not allowed to eat Nutella, it's his! if only he knew... maybe a spoon, just a spoon would help me sleep better...

pippi, our first choice school was the local catholic one because it had "outstanding" reports. But when we saw it, it was very disappointing, Y1 children looked terrified, Head and secretary bitching about nursery teachers, Head and teacher telling off a crying Y1 girl and bitch about her in front of us, complete strangers! They told us to ring back the following year when we first rang them, when we did we were told we should have gone earlier and they would never have tod us to wait, and a lot of other little things. so go and see it, best on paper is not always best for children

PippiCalzelunghe · 28/01/2009 22:14

no house should ever be nutella free inmho!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 28/01/2009 22:14

no, that should be l'11mo comandamento!

PippiCalzelunghe · 28/01/2009 22:15

so what did you do in the end sunflower?

hothell · 28/01/2009 22:15

it is true that that thread contained all the biggies.....
lets meet duing half term, will check calendar and email tomorrow, pippi

PippiCalzelunghe · 28/01/2009 22:16

it was so refreshing in a time warp sort of way to see that my friends kids in italy still get pane e nutella per merenda.

francagoestohollywood · 28/01/2009 22:20

My dc have pane e nutella a colazione!
ANd I know this will Brangelina big time but they like merendine kinder. And dd's friend eats Buondi' motta a merenda !

hothell · 28/01/2009 22:20

our local 'best school' is similar, the good values you would expct from a primary school completely lost to pushiness to get good grades, and ambitious parents cheating to get in, all very unpleasant and not our cup of tea. we wnet for the chilled out and cuddly school and we are delighted..

francagoestohollywood · 28/01/2009 22:20

I only visited the school that was closest to us.

hothell · 28/01/2009 22:24

pane e nutella per colazione? , off to call the mumsnet police

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 28/01/2009 22:26

went for second choice, same distance, good reputation and more "mixed". we did put the catholic one as first, though changed our mind, but we knew we woudn't get it as we hadn't been registered with the priest for 6 months despite having gone to local church for 18 months (and registration done by divorcee who gave us homework, even though the priest was in the next room and could have recognised us) and provided christening certificate from italy etc. the school he went to nursery for was "satisfactoy" but was getting better as had just changed head (a Robbie Rotten lookalike) who was just brilliant, same the teachers and really valued each pupil (the head commented on every school report) and they all seem very rispettosi but happy, pity it was a car journey away and with DD it would have been too much.

francagoestohollywood · 28/01/2009 22:26

I have admitted to this on MN before, and apparently it is fine
