Moving with small child

We moved out of London last year with our 8 month old but haven't really settled in the new place and have the chance to move back again (we've been letting out our flat). We don't think we want to be in London long term so we're seeing this as a taking stock, where do we want to go next kind of move, with a view to moving again in 18 months to a year before ds starts school (he's now nearly 18 months). What does anyone think about this? Does it sound mad? Should we really be looking for the long term move now so that he can make friends and get settled before he starts school? Will it be very disturbing for him to move at 18 months and again at 3 or 3.5? How soon do kids get really attached to their friends? Aaaaggghhhh! So hard making decisions for somebody else....

Move now, it'll be much easier than when he's three.
