ScummyMummy · 27/03/2003 23:38

JoAnne427 · 28/03/2003 02:29

Tigger2 I've felt the same way at times - I'm sure it isn't true! I'll bet we've all experienced that - whatever you do, don't disappear!

bossykate · 28/03/2003 08:11

tigger, could you please go and kill of the "circumcision - yes or no?" thread

just joking, i'm sure it has happened to everyone at one stage or another, don't go, you're always missed when you disappear for a while.

Tortington · 28/03/2003 09:29

i dont know why people take it all so seriously - it really baffles me - it also puts the great discussion threads into threat and thats the reason i come to look as i am not interested in nappy rash or breast feeding to me there is nothing more tedious to talk about.

so tigger my evil side wants to call you chicken!

however dont take anything seriously its onyly a website with people you dont know about, who give opinions you shouldnt care about, and advice you take or leave if you want to

i am a notorious thread stopper - and you know why....its cos everyone else is too chickenshit to answer me. thats the way i decide to think about it - its about frame of mind

it definatley isnt some conspiricy - that the rest of us mumsnetters gather secretly and plan to sabotage tiggers thread because her views are pointless.

on the contrary you are a very elequant poster - but dont go throwing your toys out - fight back with your views or just ignore certain posters - i know i do

Tigger2 · 28/03/2003 09:30

Bossykate, with pleasure, I think that it has gone beyond its actual meaning.

It was the war thread, and I really had a shit day yesterday, we lost over £7000 because the government have brought in the new LFASS system. We should have been paid £14,500 and only received just over £7000, blood pressure was sky high, had blood taken and it was spurting all over the place, caused a bit of an uproar in the docs yesterday!. Going back just now to get b/pressure taken again, hopefully it is a bit better today.

Tigger2 I just read your post on the war thread and found it fascinating, your life is so very different to mine. A few things you said brought a tear to my eye and I can understand how you feel about your animals and what a hard job you have to do, but how rewarding it is at the same time.

I don't think it's a case of your post stopping a topic, I think a lot of people probably read it and appreciate what you've said, but don't necessarily know how to respond (or have anything to add!!).

Tigger2 · 28/03/2003 13:58

I do admit my posting will not be easy for many to respond to, but, there is more to farming as many appreciate than the select few being seen in the 4X4. It is very different in farming now than it used to be when we moved here first, although we both come from farming backgrounds, our way of farming has changed so much, first BSE, then Foot and Mouth.

To receive subsidy we have to keep accurate records that tally with BCMS, i.e our cattle records must have the same information and animals on the holding as BCMS hold, that is easier said than done as BCMS can make mess of things as well. Dept of Agric also comes and checks ear tags of cattle, when you are claiming subsidy. I just feel that a lot of people think that we have an easy time getting subsidy, we don't honestly!

Anyway got to go we are dosing the ewe hoggs this afternoon, and saw marking the horn (it is not painful just a small mark) so that we know what age they are when they get older, wqhen we go to sell our old ewes.

Tigger I thought I always stopped threads so glad I'm not the only paranoid one- (although I'm pleased to see the circumcision one has carried on - I'm now keeping well out!)

I haven't read your farming one- I think I will in a mo. I spent a summer working on a sheep and beef farm in NZ- fascinating but I was surprised how hard life is there (the farmers pretty much lost their market overnight when the UK joined the EU).

Katherine · 28/03/2003 16:36

Tigger2 - I don't think its so much that people don't want to respond - just that your post is about farming rather than the war. Topics cross over all the time but maybe people just don't connect it enough with the original thread. You can see from your thread here that loads of people are interested. Why don't you just start a thread for mums who are farmers? I bet you will get loads of comments and discussion.

seahorse · 28/03/2003 17:20

tigger

You didn't end it for me - I've logged on for the first time today - been v busy.

From my own viewpoint it might be better if the war thread is stopped in any case as there are a lot of stong emotions out there. I've decided not to contribute to those anymore as I either seem to offend somebody or get upset by some of the views. Trying to stick to more interesting topics so please start one as I can't think of anything interesting at the moment!!

Rhubarb · 28/03/2003 22:48

I've not gone on the war thread as I just know it will send my blood pressure soaring! There are some threads that get out of hand, I thought the circumcision one was heading that way. At really violatile points I tend to back out and just watch the fireworks! It reminds me of a school playground with everyone trying to get one over on everyone else - and it's quite funny to try and guess who will push for the last word!

Tigger2, you have my every sympathies, my dh used to be a milker, but when he went to college, his folks sold off the diary herd without even telling him - and then they tell everyone that he never showed an interest! They still have the farm but mainly just let the land out for agriculture, and recently they have rented their barns and land out to Rock and River, a leisure company, for canoing, rifle-range and so on. It's a shame and I think his mum would like the farm to be a traditional farm again, but it just isn't workable these days is it? Shame on the Labour government for not doing more to help the farmers! Seems to me like we voted Conservative without realising it!

Ghosty · 29/03/2003 06:52

Tigger2 ... please don't be disheartened about the no-one answering responding to you ... happens to me all the time ...
I didn't even go near the war thread as I really struggle with the argumentative threads ... I got involved in the circumcision one ... had a bit of a barney with someone and so felt bad for days ... not my scene ...
I am sorry you are having a hard time at the moment ... are there any other farmer Mumsnetters around who you can talk to? Even if there aren't any people will be sympathetic to the fact you are struggling with something ...
Please stay ... Oh and I agree with BK ... could you go and do something about the circ. thread?

Ghosty · 29/03/2003 06:54

Doh, I meant that to be a ....

Clarinet60 · 29/03/2003 11:41

Me too. Check out how many threads end with droile.

Jimjams · 29/03/2003 18:15

I think the circ thread will die a death soon. I somehow became embroiled _ I usually keep well away from "anger", but have backed out now. Irony is I really don't care whether someone cicumcises their son or not.

So yeah I'll third ghosty and everyone else- think it's time to agree to disagree so please spanner the circ thread.

Jimjams · 29/03/2003 19:08

ghosty I meant to say thanks for your posting on the dreaded circ thread about the woman with the autistic boy. Funny thing is a similar thing happened to me when I was pregnant with ds1- and I also noticed something was a bit "wrong". Didn;t talk to the mother but I'm now fairly certain my hunch was correct! Could you come and walk around my town please to drown out the tut tuts......

Ghosty · 29/03/2003 21:35

I'd love to jimjams .... when I am next in UK I'll look you up!
I think that some people have to be really stupid to think that a child of a certain age behaving in a certain way that is clearly not 'normal' (please excuse the terms .... not up on my jargon ...) must have a 'problem' of some kind ....
I think if I saw a three year old (I think that is how old you said your little boy is?) who couldn't let go of a door ... as in the farm story ... I would have to be blind not to see that he had something going on ...
Jimjams .... think about you a lot now I know your story ... you are strong and fab ...
Tigger2 where are you?

Ghosty · 29/03/2003 23:38

see tigger2 ... this was about to fall off the bottom of the list and I was the last person to post ....

cathncait · 30/03/2003 00:07

Hi Ghosty
Thought I'd add a message , just so you arn't the last post!

Jimjams · 30/03/2003 20:33

@ghosty... Yes he's 3- and looks older so you would think people would realise. I am starting to get a few "um how old is he?" comments though! Am I right in thinking you're in NZ? Spent a summer working there- in Dannevirke of all places! My grandmother was a New Zealander and my aunt lived in Auckland for a whie. If my Dad had been born a year later he would have been able to claim citizenship. We may have unknown family there still as my great-grandfather did a runner back to NZ to get away form my miserable great grandmother!

Have to say I thought the west coast of the south island was the most beautiful place in the world!

NQWWW · 31/03/2003 13:55

Jimjams - an unconventional way of stopping it, but it might just work

(Oh-oh, maybe I shouldn't post this in case nobody replies.......)
