I currently have a Mercedes B Class B200CDI Sport that finishes its lease in March.

I drive about 15,000 miles a year in it (DH's car is a proper company one so we put all the miles on that, so mine is almost only my business miles), and can be in it for 8 hours in a day.

I love the B class, but feel its a bit mumsy - I love the comfort and space though.

Looking for something very comfortable to drive, but which handles well, is an enjoyable drive, and not too outrageous in terms of economy.

DH is fed up of me prevaricating - he likes choosing cars, but had no choice in his so is living through mine and its doing my head in

I cannot advice you but I feel for you. My Dh is the same (as in wanting to get me a new car that he secretly fancies).

What has he got in mind for you?
Hope it works out!

i have a golf and love it! we do hae a vw touareg as the main car which is v nice etc, but not for everyday use!

poppy34 · 19/01/2009 20:22

what kind of budget are you on?

cmotdibbler · 19/01/2009 20:25

The Golf is too small (I have to cart stuff around for work), and the Toureg too big - we have one DS and will not have any more so def do not want an SUV

DH keeps suggesting an Audi, even though I think they are overpriced

For something where the residuals are OK, the budget is 20-25k list (I get a car allowance to pay a 3 year lease)

I have a bmw 1 series lovely to drive and very economical (and DH is jealous of it )

poppy34 · 19/01/2009 20:27

we've got a vw tiguan.. its smaller than a touareg but v.economical (we've got a tdi) - there is a new audi q5 coming out (or a q7 which is a bit of a monster and basically the same as teh touareg as they're made in the same production line). the new focuses , kuga or dare I say it (it may be a rep mobile but is meant to be fab to drive) the mondeo.

poppy34 · 19/01/2009 20:28

sorry just read what you said re suv so tiguan prob out (although it is fab for carting stuff around)...and if a golf is too small then bmw one series likely to be too.

Go for an Audi A3. I had one leased when my mini was in for repair and loved it (was a 1.9TDI).
DH has now bought an Audi A4 S-Line and thats lovely too.

When the spring comes I am gonna sell the mini and buy an audi A3, lovely cars

cmotdibbler · 19/01/2009 20:32

Trouble with the 1 series is that the legroom in the back is too small for any of our friends ! SIL has one and I find it hard to sit in, but DH is also 6'3", so that has to be considered.

I hate driving Mondeos, so thats out I'm afraid.

Q5 looks nice, but costs a fortune, cos DH suggested that earler

DH has an Audi (the A6) and it is lovely. It has rather too many gadgets for me - our old one was less heavy on the gadgets - but it is very comfy.

I have a hankering after the TT but I doubt I would get my two boys in the back.

poppy34 · 19/01/2009 20:40

q5 is the audi version of tiguan if thats any help

charlieandlola · 19/01/2009 20:45

Honda CRV? new shape 2.2Diesel, goes well, 42mpg, so ok for economy

cmotdibbler · 19/01/2009 21:07

I'm told the CRV isn't very reliable as several of DH's work contacts have them.

Sigh. I am being picky aren't I ?

no help but I have a tiguan too poppy and I love it!!!

Tas1 · 20/01/2009 19:30

I have an Audi Q7, Its fantastic.

cmotdibbler · 20/01/2009 20:28

So, my shortlist for test driving is the Mazda 6, Audi A6, and Merc C class. May go for an estate, but not necessarily.

Thanks for all suggestions, and a little bump if there are any other great ideas or comments ?
