hi, i was just having a sneaky cigarette, and put the 'end' in the old metal tumbler i use as a ashtray. it was really smoking loads, so i looked in the said tumbler to put it out, and i had put a tesco receipt in the cup also. however there was a tenner in the receipt all scrumpled up!!!
i have put it out, but have burned the serial number on the end off. the silver strip is on the other side.

can i still use the money, or is it worthless now.
i am such a complete idiot!!
serves me right for smoking perhaps, when in fact thats what smoking does, burns your cash!!
please someone ,anyone, is it still a ten pound note?? can i still spend it???

i will not blame you for laughing!!!!

it has to have both serial numbers i would say now worthless although you could try taking it into a bank and seeing what they say!

psychomum5 · 16/01/2009 19:10

it should have two serial numbers on it, and as long as one it there then banks should exchange it for a new (well, unburnt) one.

matildax · 16/01/2009 19:14

thanks bonkerz and psychomum.
it has the serial number under where it says £10 and half of the other one!!! what a complete tit i am!!!
so do i take it to the bank??
oh god, i hope they will change it, we are skint!!!! dp will go mental!!!!

yup, take to the bank.

as long as they can make out the serial number then they are legally obliged to change it.

I have taken in ones that have been ripped and then sellotaped back together before now and they have changed them

thanks psychomum, i sent, (too embarrased to go myself) my oldest dd to the corner shop with it for some treats, and they accepted it. yippee!!
its actually good that i burned it, as i would have just emptied the tumbler into the bin, then i would have had no tenner at all!!!
thanks again
xx
