Emigrating

My sister called this morning to tell me that she and her family (husband and 2 children) are emigrating to Australia! She's got a job, their house is on the market, the legal work re the embassy and their visa has all been done and that's it, they should be gone within the next 2 months. No-one in the family had any idea that they were planning this.
Although I can totally understand her reasons for going (mainly financial, they've been borrowing from Peter to pay Paul for the last decade and this is their way out of it) I'm in shock. I'm pleased for them but very very sad that our family is going to be split up and, if I tell the truth, I think I might be tad jealous. I lived in Melbourne back in the late 80s and loved it very much but missed my family so much that I came home.

I don't know what sort of replies if any I expect to get to this posting but just felt the need to air my thoughts. Thanks for listening.

I think my sister had a similar reaction when I moved to the UK (and it's considerably closer to her than Australia to you), and I can understand how you feel.
I live far away from all of my family and I do miss them but I know if I wouldn't be happy back home and now that they see me happy and settled they feel much better about it too. (also we're lucky in that we get to meet quite often as it's only a 2hour flight)

think that one advantage will be that you'll be able to go on holiday there and just pay for the flight!! (I know it's not much, but it's something positive to think of)
