what exactly IS a star chart?

Daft, I know, but dd's my first and I'm potty training her and would like to use a star chart to reward her. Do I buy one? Make one? Sorry to be so utterly clueless ...

i made one with my first two. they enjoyed making them with me. I have just made one with dd 3 days ago as even though she is always dry at night she refused to go without a nappy. so we have drawn up a chart and she gets a star if she goes to bed without one on....working so far!!

possibly. i think a lot depends on the child. what stage is your dd at mummylonglegs? how long have you been trying with it?

I like star charts - work well with my ds1 (not so well for ds2 - horses for courses and all that).

What works well for potty training is just to buy some stickers, and she gets to choose one and stick it on the potty every time she has a success!

At this age (around 2 - 2.5 I presume?) they don't really need any further reward - 10 stickers for a prize or whatever - just having/seeing the stickers is enough IME.

Oh, ok, I didn't realise it was inappropriate for potty training, a couple of people on here suggested it. I haven't used one yet, it was just an idea. She's not into chocolate or sweets in particular. She thrives on praise of course but I just wondered if there was a little something else special or different I could reward her with ...

No offence here, Christie, what you say makes total sense. I'm with you re. night training too. So far I haven't pushed dd at all, I want her to feel happy about potty training as it's an anxious time enough for them without parental pressure. As I said I was just keen to find something to do as a special kind of reward.

I rarely get offended and having been brought up with my mum take criticism like it's a breath of air!!

But does anyone know of a different kind of reward I can give dd?
