So I've signed up for a 10k run in May and having a training plan but WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?!!

Top priority is to get myself some proper running shoes but I haven't a clue about what to wear, especially as it's so cold at the moment. Would value any suggestions from MNers with experience in these things. Money is tight (as I'm sure is the case for most people at the moment) so I want to spend it wisely.

Thank you!

Aw thanks, DLFS, it will at least give me an idea of what I should be looking for on ebay!

Go to a proper running shop (not high street sports shop) and get your gait looked at and buy the appriopiate shoes. Sounds mad but is essential.

If you could make do with running clothes for now ie old tracksuit and sweatshirt etc. Keep your eyes peeled everyweek at lidl and aldi as every few months they do cheap running gear. - which by the way will make a huge difference to your performance.

get a headband thingy rather than a hat as a hat doesn't let any heat escape and you do get hot.

I go out aTM in running leggings (£7 aldi) thin long sleeve top (£6 aldi) and a cycling jacket (£10 tchibo sale) with gloves and headband (couple of quid each in aldi) and am plenty warm once you get going.

Oh no... I am doing one of these in May also.

Must start training.

Thanks Furball, that's really useful. We have Aldi just round the corner from here so I shall keep an eye out for the latest offers. Wish me luck...
