Had a family run out this afternoon to our favourite valley, all going as normal ie ds1, "Im going to be sick" I open door, ds1 throws up all over me and the car door.. dd2 wakes in dirty mood with worse nappy.. no nappies in change bag, so just the normal routine really!
Round a corner and see a For Sale sign, had a quick look in, meet the guy, (divorce situation) stay all afternoon and fall in love! This place is FANTASTIC, everything we have ever dreamed of and more..
We are 9 years into the restoration of our house, and its been very hard at times. Not sure we can do it again, not with a family anyway. I thought we would retire in this house, now im not sure..
Dont expect any answers, just trying to work it out...

Everything for a reason.
What's for you won't go by you.
Right place, right time.

How exciting! Sounds as though you were drawn there for some reason .

Only you know the answers though .

Our house was in a right state when we bought, but we are so, so glad we did go for it. It's strange, there was so much to do. But we've never been happier! Must have just 'known' it was for us as we took one quick look, they flew to the EA's to make an offer!

Good luck with whatever you decide.

My mum. did that 11 years ago, had a lovely little house , then her and her dh (my step-dad) went for a drive, and saw this lovely house, up on a hill overlooking the sea with a for sale sign, she fell in ,love knocked on door and viewed house, they put theirs on the market and put an offer in on this house, they sold theirs straight away but had probs with the sale going through as it was being bought by the raf, however the kindly lady owner of their dreanm home sat tight for a whole year while evrything went through and they moved in.My mum adores her house and I dont think she will ever leave there, it is gorgeous, it was worth buying just for the fantastic view she gets every morning.

Where is it Anteater? Just think of all that digging you'll have to do to install the trampoline again! Top priority you know!!

Gobbledigook · 31/03/2005 10:06

btw - up in Lakes next Tue and Wed and would love to come for a bounce if you are around!

MunchedTooManyMarsLady · 31/03/2005 10:08

I think that dreams should be taken hold of if you can. Can't give you any other help.

btw.. it was the house you fell in love with? lol

Mothernature · 31/03/2005 10:08

Sounds like the start of a very good novel...lol, maybe this would help pay for the plans you have for the property... I could be your ghost writer...

Anteater · 31/03/2005 12:55

Blimey, Anteater...

We are toying with trying to live somewhere warmer than the UK and I look at the the work I've put into our place (which is now very nice) and I wonder if I'm being a dimwit...

The one thing I can say for us is that if we moved to a new place tomorrow, I would have a far better idea of the schedule of works / garden design / fittings / materials etc. etc. to make a home how I / we like (presuming it needed work).

However, we had a LONG, HARD slog doing our place up and at the time it was pretty stressful... reading between the lines you guys have spent years on your place too... are you really ready to give it up and potentially enter more agro ?

Then again, haven't seen the dream place you've just found !

Gobbledigook · 31/03/2005 14:14

How strange, never met a Mumsnetter before!

Have just checked and still have your number and directions so will call next week if you really don't mind.

Please say so if you don't want us descending on you!

JoolsToo · 02/04/2005 18:09

wot about me?

logic · 02/04/2005 18:48

Can I just post a word of warning, Anteater? Avoid divorce situation house sales like the plague. Ours started all lovely like that. The bloke was fine, promised to move out before exchange etc... The wife got involved and custody of the house after we had shelled out the investigative costs. Cue withholding of paperwork for months, screaming lawyers (her own dropped her!), and on the day of completion, she refused to move out meaning that we didn't get fully moved in until gone 7pm with everyone else in the chain screaming at us. Hideous.

JoolsToo · 02/04/2005 18:53

good point that! we had a house up the road that was on and off for sale (divorcing wife kept sabotaging the sale!)

jasper · 02/04/2005 19:18

how exciting!
Got to disagree with the "what's for you won't go by you" comment.(in my experience)

What's for you WILL go by you if you don't grab it tightly with both hands and cling on tightly!!

Good luck

Anteater · 02/04/2005 19:56

Thanks for the word of warning Logic, we met both parties this morning... they both want a quick sale.
Jasper, found out there are two others who have gone back for a second look, but no offers as yet. Had the agent round yesterday to value our house.. quite scary!
Will need to decide by Monday if we are going for it.
The second look went very very well..
