Whyt is my Sky+ box buzzing?

we only had it installed last month and it has started to buzz. Do I just unplug it and hope for the best?

is it vibrating on something? ours vibrates a bit but ok when we move it slightly

Ah, it is perilously perched on top of the tv, so I will try moving it

It does have low hum from time to time as fans kick in to cool teh unit down.

it also has a hard drive in like a computer which runs from time to time. If it is either of these sounds I woudln't worry - these are both normal.

Thanks- it's not vibrating after all, as when I switched it off it made that dying sound that computers make when you just switch them off so maybe it is either the fan or harddrive. I was recording something when it started- could that explain it?

When it's recording it can make a noise just from the disk whirring round - that sounds like the "computer noise". Mine gets its knickers in a right twist sometimes though and whirrs away when we're not recording anything. I find turning it off for a few mins then back on again shuts it up.

Thank you everyone I have a complete paranoia about electrical things exploding so it makes me twitchy! I have demonstrated to dd that there actually is an off button, so we will let it cool down and see if it has recovered in time for the Night Garden. Thanks again

Accoring dh it is the fan that makes that bloody annoying noise. We find if you just press the top lightly it stops.

Even when you aren't recording anything it might be recording things for Anytime and so will whirr!

mine buzzes for the first 20 mins.
It is old though.
