Has any one else had this with there phone?

My home phone is ringing but when I a answer it there is just a loud cackling noise. Do you think there could be a fault on the line???

Could possibly be a 'sales call' they do it by computer and the first one to pick up is connected...leaving the others in cyber space..

Motehrnature - sorry forgot to mention that the line is constantly cackling.

Can you ring a friend and ask them to call you back? see if that answers your question..
