DH and I were thinking of getting this on sky-box office tonight. Before we bother, is it any good. Please do not give away any major plots.
Thankyou

Quite bizarre, but gets you thinking because the plot chops and changes. I quite enjoyed it. Dh didn't for the first 45mins but then it grew on him.Loved the music, though!

Can recommend the Royal Tenenbaums (sp?) though. Watched that on Sky Box office last week and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Saw this on video recently and didn't really enjoy it. Very bizarre indeed but quite a brave choice of role by Tom Cruise. The plot is a bit disturbing and I didn't find any of the characters very likeable. Sorry!

whats the royal tenenbaums about then moomin.

I am really in the mood for a comedy or something good.

It's about a strange family who have an estranged relationship with their dad. It's got a briiliant cast: Gene Hackman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Stiller, Anjelica Huston.... It might not be everyone's cup of tea but we found it really quirky and funny. The characters are really good.

karenanne · 14/03/2003 18:41

i agree the royal tenanbaums is a brill movie.
vanilla sky well its a good film but very strange ..one that sets you thinking and you really need to watch it a second time to really 'get' it

helenmc · 14/03/2003 18:43

enjoyed Vanila Sky - Dh fell asleep and its the really last 10 mins which make sense of the whole film.

Clarinet60 · 14/03/2003 21:56

I enjoyed it very much, but I saw it on big screen, which makes a difference I think. Agree with helenmc, you have to see the last 10 mins.
It's thought provoking - life, what is it, etc.
Worth seeing.

Can't remember if it's Vanilla Sky or Minority Reports that was meant to be absolutely brilliant - can anyone fill me in?

Gem13 · 15/03/2003 19:49

Vanilla Sky was ok - DH had to explain it to me although that's not unusual

Minority Report was good but I went into labour during it so I'll have to watch it again!

I think MR got better reviews than VS.

If anyone is in need of a video recommendation - we saw 'Ghost World' the other week and really enjoyed it.

EmmaTMG · 15/03/2003 21:37

Honestly......? I thought it was crap!
Sorry.

WideWebWitch · 16/03/2003 09:54

I thought Minority Report was ok but not brilliant. It started well but irritated me towards the end although I'd say it's worth seeing - interesting central concept. I didn't like Vanilla Sky - we got it out on video and didn't even watch all of it which is unusual for me but I got very fed up and couldn't suspend my disbelief about half an hour in. So no, I wouldn't recommend it at all.

I saw Gosford Park the other night (I know it's quite old) and thought it was fantastic, although period dramas aren't usually my thing. Maggie Smith was amazing, as were the other actors. We also saw Heartless with Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love-Hewitt on Friday and that was a fun, easy watch. Trash, but enjoyable trash IYKWIM. Followed it up with Mulholland Drive which I really disliked but then I think you either like David Lynch or you don't and I generally don't so I should have known better. The Bourne Identity is good - it's a thriller. And XXX is Die Hard meets Bond although I thought Vin Diesel was terrible. Complete chewing gum for the mind but I liked not having to think at all and ended up quite enjoying it! Anyway, that's what I've seen recently!

bossykate · 16/03/2003 21:58

thought "MR" was fantastic, and really enjoyed "Ghost World". haven't seen "Vanilla Sky".

WideWebWitch · 16/03/2003 23:44

We've just watched Minority Report again and it is very good. I was thinking of AI when I was thinking about being irritated towards the end, not Minority Report, sorry!
