decided I hate fastweb Franca and am looking at changing, looking at tiscali and vodafone who both have offers on at the moment, anyone got any experience of either? Fastweb seems to be a lot more expensive??
Looking at form to start the process of scuola materna for ds in sept . would quite happily keep him at home for next 3 years but I know it'll do him good. I know it's been discussed here before but can anyone give me any advice re what I need to do as whole process is baffling me (and dp NO use). Or give me link to where has been discussed before? thanks

gio71 · 18/01/2009 15:10

francagoestohollywood · 18/01/2009 15:54

Gio, there are usually 2 kinds of scuole materne: scuola materna statale (managed directly by the provedditorato, like scuola elementare) and scuola materna comunale, which is managed by local council. They have different processes of enrollment.
When I had to enroll dd last year, I already knew that in Milan the number of scuole materne comunale is significantly bigger than the statali ones, so I chose the comunali. Plus I knew that the scuola mat I was allocated was very good. I started the process by checking on the comune website, and here is the comune di roma. You have time until the 6th of February.
Also, at the moment, the scuole materne comunali don't seem to be touched by evil gelmini reform, so hrs won't be cut.
Are you really sad? I kicked mine out when they were 1 . I'm an evil mother

Sorry, I didn't mean to doubt your feelings of course, I was just feeling a bit guilty about mine

Yes today was a disappointment weather-wise wasn't it.
I can't really help you with the scuola materna, as round here there's just the ones of the comune. For the first year they sent a letter to come to a meeting in feb and we filled the form in there. For the second year we did it at the school. There is no problem of places here so it was all pretty much automatic.
I am not sure what to do though as, according to our plan we should be living in Rome come next sept, but not sure exactly where. Will have to leave it for now and maybe look into when we have found a house and hope for the best.

gio71 · 18/01/2009 17:33

thanks guys. how does it work with points? there is a scuola comunali round the corner I really want him to go to, how rare do places tend to be? Am not sure what I should tick re his family situation? Basically I (even tho I shouldnt) earn money in uk, work in uk market so pay tax in uk although am here, it's always been simpler to leave it like that. So I officially dont work here, is that likely to massively reduce my chances of him getting a place?
Franca I am pathetic re my ds, to be honest I think it will do me more good than him for him to go to school, start cutting the apron strings a bit. My dp tells me I am more Italian mamma and ds is more mammone than anyone else he knows [blush. He loves playing with other kids so will be fine (I hope). Watch out for thousands of upset posts from me here around October time

gio71 · 18/01/2009 17:34

Sputnik are you still thinking round Vitinia way re your move?

gio71 · 18/01/2009 17:34

forgot bracket for

francagoestohollywood · 18/01/2009 17:56

No darling, you are not pathetic at all . Lots of threads on MN of mums feeling upset by their children starting school or nursery! Totally normal. When is your ds going to turn 3? That, I think, makes a huge difference on how they settle. Also, you have the option of "orario ridotto", which may be the best choice to start with.
I had a quick look at the comune di roma website, and the process is totally different from that in MIlan, also the way punteggio is given. Scuole materne in Milan receive lots of applications, but I've never heard of anyone who didn't get a place. Not sure what the situation is like in Rome.
I read that you have to bring the application to the school of your choice, why not giving them a ring and see if they can help?
The most important thing seems to be that you need to have the residenza there and pick the school which is most likely to be of your Bacino d'utenza. Again, the school should be able to help you with that. I hope this goes smoothly. I know how frustrating it is do do any bureaucratic thing here!!! We'll hold your hand throughout the whole process

Yes we're still looking at Vitinia but nothing nice has come up there really. So we are also looking at Spinaceto nearby, which is the part of EUR fuori raccordo. I really hope there is no shortage of places at the scuole materne there or we will be stuck come september!

monkeysmama · 18/01/2009 18:13

Ciao!

Been lurking for a while so thought I'd pop up and say "ciao" .

Living in UK at the moment but starting to think about moving back to Italy in a year or two (and starting the job of convincing dp!)

MM

gio71 · 18/01/2009 18:14

thankyou!! you are lovely!!
I think I will fill in the form as best as I can and go to the school. Definitely think will do half days. That will give me the morning to work, I can still get a bit done in the afternoon then still got time to go to the park, meet friends for wine icecream in the afternoon

gio71 · 18/01/2009 18:15

Ciao monkeysmama, welcome! Have you been on this thread before? Are you Italian? Whereabouts in Italy?

monkeysmama · 18/01/2009 18:19

Thanks for the welcome. Nope not been on before but been reading the odd post.

One 1/2 Italian parent (Calabrese) but born and brought up in London. Moved to Italy at 17 (Bologna, then Bari, Potenza for a while then Napoli then back to Bologna), married (and divorced) and Italian. Now back in the UK. Brining dd up bilingual.

gio71 · 18/01/2009 18:22

wherebouts would you go back to do you think? What's making you want to make the move (nosey)

monkeysmama · 18/01/2009 18:24

Not sure - dp's company has offices in Roma, Milano and Torino. Quite simple reason - I prefer it!

Sputnik · 18/01/2009 18:25

Welcome MM

gio71 · 18/01/2009 18:29

me too

gio71 · 18/01/2009 18:33

dp out for evening so ds had cereal for dinner . Oh and biscuit dough cos just made some ginger biscuits and we have scraped the bowl together. we always have crap food rebellion type dinners when dp is out...me rebelling against primi-secondi-frutta ogni sera!!
How much do you guys spend on food/housekeeping stuff each week? I seem to spend a fortune and want to start cutting back.

Sputnik · 18/01/2009 18:46

Just spotted you agreeing with me on another thread MM, I like you already

My DH just went out to get pizza

We spend a fortune too, I really started noticing it when DS started on solids, and I've been making an effort too to cut back. We don't eat meat anyway, but I'm trying to go for cheaper types of fish, and having more beans lentils etc. Also always hunting out the special offers in supermarkets.

Sputnik · 18/01/2009 18:53

I can see why you want to rebel Gio, I think I would top myself if I had to eat primo secondo frutta every day!

Talking of cheap fish reminds me, we got some totani rings yesterday as they were cheap and put them in a stir fry, it wasn't a sucess so does anyone know a good recipe? Ideally I would deep fry them but a) I'm trying to lose weight and b) DH won't eat fried stuff

monkeysmama · 18/01/2009 19:03

Thank you Sputnik. I now feel very welcome!

Rosa · 18/01/2009 20:08

Hi Monkey benvenuto tra di noi !!!
Gio I went through it last Sept with dd1 and have to go trhough inserimento again for the materna in Sept so we can hold hands together. They pick up your vibes so you need to be cool and relaxed ( yeah !!!)When I left dd for the first time I thought my heart was going to break !! Being pg did not help either !
We were thinking of a communale but there are not enough places here so we went for a materna run by part suore plus 2 outside teachers. Its not that exp and it has good reviews. With your redito it is a bit of a grey area as I believe that you really should be declaring your earnings in Italy as you reside more than 180 days ....None of my business to be honest but not sure what to advise !
Food shopping we are buying more offerte and dh hits the hypermarkets on the mainland for me. I ( sad ) have done a few price matching on things we buy regularly and try to stock up there as and when we need.
I no longer buy things like salmone unless on offer , fancy biscuits , exp muesli. Pannolini have gone up since dd1 ( lots) so when friend comes from Austria in the car he brings them !
We do eat meat as much as I like fish I still cannot cope with the smell cooking. I made a fish pasticcio today and nearly threw up ! SO its frozen stuff for us ( eyes and heads and bones would finish me off !!!)

PippiCalzelunghe · 18/01/2009 21:34

Ciao MM! welcome!

Gio I am a bit like franca in that I am quite happy to 'kick them out' soon. However I am a bit at the thought that next sept my lovely baby dd1 will start reception at only 4.2 ... I've already lost her...

franca remind me of that place in sicily mainland that you went to a few years back. or anyone else suggestions for holiday. Must: sandy beaches, hotel/apt near beach/ pool (for the english dh).
