Our rented flat is being put up for sale. I'm still on my mat leave. This means that I'm going to have to go back to work, get more in debt and try and find a flat half as nice as this one. Help.

No NP I haven't heard from them. I'm crying, I feel sick, DP is policing that war march, mum is out and I don't have anyone to make me feel better. We have two months notice in effect. Maybe longer if it takes more time to find a buyer. But the flat seems very reasonably priced, just not reasonable for us IYSWIM. We want to go back to Bristol, were planning to in a year or so. I don't know if DP would consider going now, or if he could even get a job yet. I've rung the agents to see if he would consider posponing it for a couple of months to give us a fighting chance, figure we could offer more money, but the person I needed to speak to wasn't there.

surely they will give you more time if you have been good tenants

if you were planning to go to bristol in a year or so maybe the time is now, although i can understand its a bigger upheaval than you were planning to do at this stage, with baby being so young etc etc

i really really hope it works out for you, i can symapthise with your upset and think they should give you 6 mths notice, FGS

so are you wishing you could buy the flat? maybe you could make them an offer if thats what you want to do - stay there i mean

Flossam, I've been in this position and got some wise advice here at the time, I'll see if I can find it. I do know how horrible it is.

Thanks WWW. I'll look too, I didn't think of searching, I just posted cause I was gutted and no-one here to talk to! DP is being more positive (ATM!) and I am trying to see it as an opportunity. We would like to go back to Bristol as I've said, not yet. But when else will we have two months and a set date to find somewhere?

NP somehow I missed your last message, sorry, didn't mean it to look as though I was ignoring you!

I'm not keen to try and buy, I think the risk of prices falling is too great, and buying somewhere we don't plan to stay for too long seems crazy and risky.

We want to go to Bristol, but DP is at an advantage for promotion up here, so thinks we need to stay for an extra year 18 months. We need the extra money to either save for a mortgage or allow me to work less. Or now moving house! He also needs to drive, which he is doing at the moment.

The letting agent seemed to think it would take a good 3 to 4 months to sell, he also pointed out that an investor might be the purchaser, so we might be able to continue letting the flat. A chap downstairs may be thinking about letting his out in the future, so we will see.

2 months is plenty of time to find somewhere else, not what we want necessarily, but we don't have much choice other than to sit tight, we think. There are at least 2 potential opportunities might be missed if we leave, both which would be a lot cheaper and less hassle than moving! As long as the sense of insecurity dosen't drive me potty hopefully we will be ok. Thanks for your support NP, I'll email you and let you know if I hear from MF. WWW, I couldn't find your threads.

Flossam, I couldn't find them either, I wonder if they were in chat and therefore got archived or something, I searched on every word I could think of. I'll have another look in a minute.

here's the one I was thinking of where I was really worried about moving out of our rented house You never know, there might be something helpful there. I so know the feeling.
