Who is an adoptive parent?

just thinking we should start a whole new topic section.
I have been an adoptive parent for 4 years to my neice whose parents both died.i know this is a family adoption and is a bit different from adopting someone elses baby or child. I would love to hear from anyone else who has become a parent in this way. is ther already a section for this topic that I have missed?

I know that there are a few parents on here who have adopted babies (jaysmum springs to mind) but am not sure if there is anyone in your particular situation. I was adopted as a baby 41 years ago (gulp!) and I know that there are fellow adoptees here.

What relation was it that died so that your neice came to live with you?
