Hi, I have been ill for over a week now. It started with a saw throught then a tickly cough and sneezing runny nose etc. Now I'm coughing so much my chest aches and I've got a headache.
I was ill all through my AL from work.
Do you think I should phone in sick? I work nights in a home for people with learning disabilities. I'd worry about passing it on to them, so I really shouldn't. I've phoned in sick before and whoever answers just seems really blunt when I tell them, no hope you feel better soon etc.
It's also my birthday tommorrow, so if they realise that then they'll think I just phoned in sick, so I didn't have to sleep through my birthday.
What would you do ?

phone in sick. You are ill.
And you don't want to pass it on to your clients. My dd will live in a residential home one day and I'd be a bit put out of a sick person came into work!

Phone in sick, then go to your GP and get a sick note from him - sounds like you need to be seen anyway with a cough like that.

Then go to bed, lots of hot drinks and paracetamol every 4 hours. Hope you're better soon!

phone on and give them a chance to get a replacement
tell them you are going to the dr.

unless you're a serial sciver they should be ok

Thank you, It acctually annoys me when people come in to work ill and risk spreading it to everyone.
Now I've had to phone in a couple of times, I realise why people do it.

I'll try to get some anit biotics, and a sick note. That should help.

I've just phoned in and said that I think I might have a chest infection and I'm going to see the Dr to get some anti-biotics.
She said "Oh right, so you're not comming in tonight then?" when I said no, she said "o.k I'll let them know".
What do they expect???
most of our residents are extreemly vulnerable to annything like this, it could easily put them in hospital. Is that what they want ? It really annoys me.
